As a very long-time Star Trek fan, a trekker/trekkie if you will, the news of Mr. Nimoy's passing today hit me as hard as the news of Robin Williams' passing last year. We have an extensive legacy of Mr. Nimoy's work as an actor, director, producer, photographer and singer. He will always Live Long and Prosper.

What Star Trek film (1-6) is your favorite containing the original cast?

He came and spoke at Auburn when I was a student there. The SGA sponsored his visit and as a new exec, I didn't know about their running gag of bringing in famous speakers and casually introducing them to whatever staff was in. So we're hanging around in the office and suddenly someone pops in with a "Hey guys, this is Leonard Nimoy." I almost fell out of my chair.

He hung out with us for about 20 minutes--he was great!--and no, I never got past the shock of SGA staff breezing in with a "Hey everyone, this is (intensely famous person)."

Fascinating. Great story, Carnation. Now if I could find the "jealous" smiley.....

Now I realize how lucky we were. At the time, who knew?

I wish I'd been in the office, though, when they sprang Elvis on the secretary.

<Pardon my language>

I just read on Twitter that those evil shitheads from Westboro "Church" will be picketing Mr. Nimoy's funeral. Oh hell no.

People who create iconic characters live forever--as will Mr. Nimoy. And it makes me happy to see the breadth of his talent and influence beyond Mr. Spock. He was a great human being.

When I was in school, I saw Leonard Nimoy in "Man in the Glass Booth" at the Old Globe Theater. A very powerful play, extremely dramatic and he was FANTASTIC. You could really see the depth of his acting. R.I.P.
