Transfers and NPC expansions...

Sister X in NPC sorority Y transfers from school A where she initiated to School B where there is an expansion going on where her Sorority is coming on. Would she be part of the expansion group, not part of the expansion group or would it vary from NPC sorority to sorority?

Oooh that's a good question.

There is a member here on GC who went through just this scenario. She was NOT part of the expansion activity but did become a member of the chapter after the colonization period was complete. Adding interest to it, she came from a strong chapter at a very small school and went to a colony at a big school. So the changes were huge between the small unhoused chapter at a techy school to a huge brand new chapter with a house.

I don't see her around here much lately but hopefully she'll chime in.

It would vary sorority to sorority and by the situation. I know of at least one situation where the sorority put a hold and did not allow affiliations at a new chapter as a way to help them gain their identity and make their mark with the colony members first.

When they had an expansion at my school the members of that sorority were not able to affiliate until after the colony was installed as a chapter. After that they followed the sorority's established transfer procedures

I think the transfer member should make contact with HQ and the extension team and indicate her interest in affiliating with the new colony...this could vary group by group and colonization by colonization. In the last extension I worked with, there were a couple transfer members who indicated interest and came to extension events (both had made prior contact and were "known" to the extension team). One was very close to graduation and considered affiliating, but decided instead to help as a local alumna; the other affiliated with the new colony. She did have to attend all the "new member" meetings during the colony period, even though she was already initiated, to bond with the group.

I also think it depends how large the colonization team and/or how long they're staying.
