Is this happening to anyone else?
 

So I get to be a bridesmaid AGAIN in June for my best friend's wedding. I am picking up the dress Friday. Its not that I don't enjoy being in people's weddings, but when do I get to ask them to shell out money and be in mine? Is anyone else going through "always a bridesmaid, never a bride"? Or am I just having a weak moment and getting pissed at my boyfriend...

SIX bridesmaids dresses hanging in my closet currently. And at least 4 more single friends who would ask me to do it again--only one of them getting close to being engaged though!

Been there, got the dresses to prove it.
 

I've been a bridesmaid so many times that I've taken over the guest room closet at my mom's house just to store the dresses. I am SO ready to pick out an ugly, wear-only-once dress for someone else! :)

)So now that I'm not alone, this feeling will pass right? (I'm ok with being lied to by the way ;)

Trust me, the feeling will definitely pass once you've had to listen to all those married women complain about their husbands for a while. When they start acting jealous because YOU'RE the single one, you'll feel tons better. :)

Not only will it not pass, but I've found it hard to even enjoy weddings as a GUEST lately-- the pressure other, well-intentioned, guests put on my single 30something self with the "You'll be next, honey's"

I don't want to be next! lol I mean, just cause I'm single doesn't mean I don't like it and am desperate for it to change.

Au contraire--right now I am working on upping my tolerance level for the male species to beyone 5 minutes at a time! ha ha

I think I would have been ok without these two happenings: last wedding was my boyfriends brother (younger bro) and he caught the garter and they threw me the bouquet after the 5-year old caught it. Second was my best friend asking me "When is Rob going to get off his ass so I can be in your wedding? Haven't you been together long enough yet?". Then she proceeded to tell me we have her blessing.

People assume that since he has gotten me gold and diamonds twice now that he's "decorating" me and working up to something.

Thanks for the honesty though. At least I am not alone in the never wear again dress sorority!

I am going to be a first time bridesmaid this April...and let me tell you - this dress is crazy. Its very beautiful - but I dont think the bride took into consideration that 1/5 of her bridal party (me) is big chested...and this dress is very low cut and va va va voom!

I'm super-excited because my roomate asked me to be a bridesmaid for her when she gets married next year. :D Its pretty cool b/c I've only known her about a year, and it'll be with one of our other roomates too. I can't wait.

Although, after 4-6 of them, I can see how one would get tired of it

I too have about 5 dresses that I wouldn't even consider taking out of the dry cleaner bags they came in.

I do enjoy being in a wedding(I met my current love intrest at the last one I was in), but I think when and if the time comes, I would like to pay for the dresses. It is alot of money and time to shell out for someone else's day. My sister did it for her bridesmaids, so hopefully I can do it as well.

There is a book about ugly bridemaid dresses and making them into pillows...I could imagine any of mine working, but who knows!

And watch out... the more weddings you are in...the higher the price of the dress. My first bridesmaid experience was in college and the dresses were under $100- pick your own shoes. The last wedding - $298.00 plus the dyed shoes to match!

My chapter just had a reunion and the dress was "fun formal" since none of us had to worry about impressing guys like at a regular formal. A lot of women wore old bridesmaid dresses which was the whole point, to get some more wear out of them!

If you want to get the dresses out of your house AND do something nice, suggest your local high school open a prom dress closet. Everyone brings old formal dresses to a central location and girls can buy them for a fraction of the price they'd pay for a new one (or get them for free, depending on what expense there is for running the project). A lot of bridesmaid dresses can be altered slightly (if they have butt-bows or the like) and especially if there are a lot of lower income families in the area, the girls will really appreciate it.

OK, all. Never been a bridesmaid myself, but I came close just out of college. (best friend from high school asked way in advance, then for whatever reason decided I wasn't good enough to be in the wedding or something:rolleyes: ) Did see the dress, though. Gotta tell ya, I was throwin' a party over not having to wear it. However, being fresh out of college and neck deep in debt, I set it up to make payments. Paid $80, not even close to half, toward the ugly thing and never saw it again.

So anyway, I decided then and there that my wedding party would have a say about the dress style. I chose the color, which was agreeable to them, and we all agreed on the style. My dresses were made by a woman I worked with at the time, so we found suitable material for a formal enough dress that could be altered and used in real life.

Now, I'm divorced and have since remarried. My plan the second time around? JEANS! :)
