Pledging Across Christmas/New Year or across Summer

I'm pretty sure that the Alpha Phi Omega chapter at University of Virginia runs their pledging across semesters (rush in 2014 runs from October 27th to November 12, and pledging is a minimum of 6 weeks, so...)

I'm curious as to whether this happens anywhere else? In the broadest sense, I'm looking for where it is standard for the pledging process to start in one school semester and end in another. (Or if there is a trimester system, for pledging to cross the new year)

Chi Omega initiates in the quarter/semester after Recruitment to confirm all New Members make grades, even with upperclass NMs. (Exceptions would be at schools with deferred recruitment.)

How does this work for Chi Omega at schools where the greek system requires all groups initiate within a certain amount of time from bid day (say 8 weeks or 10 weeks or whatever)?

Back in my day for ALL NPC sororities, pledge periods were full semesters/quarters. New members were pledges and they did not attend chapter meetings. Only initiated members attended chapter meetings. After I graduated the scuttlebutt I heard was that two NPC sororities decided, in an effort to quell hazing, to shorten the pledge period to approx. 8 weeks. In an effort to be competitive, most of the other NPCs followed suit, the exception being XO, whom I admire for doing what they felt was right.
