Introduction + Question?
Hi my name is Mia. I wanted to ask a question about membership. If thats not ok for me to do here let me know. I guess I will just ask it now. So a couple of years ago i started school and joined a sorority, but had to leave said school because of personal issues. I was initiated as a member already before i left. Now i am back at the same school and was wondering about my membership. I want to take everything easy and not become an active member of my sorority just yet but i was wondering if it could be possible for me to connect with new members to try and make friends (I know that most of the girls I met the first time would have graduated by now so this would be a fresh start)? Does this make sense?

I would say that your best bet is to contact the chapter's adviser or your HQ for direction on your status now that you are back in school. With some groups, you are automatically a member again since it's the same chapter/school...with some, not. WE can't tell you so contacting your HQ or the chapter adviser is your best bet....and I would say HQ first and adviser second.
And until ypu have clarification on your status, do not make overtures to members. |
Did you keep in touch with any of the sisters that were in school at the same time you were?

Titchou- could you explain what that last part means? I dont understand.
33girl- i did actually and was able to visit them a couple times when i had come up before i came back to school but after i had already left. |
Until you find out from your HQ what your status is (still a member, have to apply for re-instatement, etc), do not contact any of the members. It's up to the chapter to define your status to the members so that they know who you are - not the other way around.

Titchou, one clarification for the OP if I may: It is up to the chapter to inform the chapter of your (OP's) status after it is determined by HQ. The chapter communicates (and may need to take actions based on the HQ determination), but you (OP) need to engage HQ first. Titchou is correct.

If you are not interested in being active, I would just keep my mouth shut all the way around. You don't have to use a sorority to make friends on campus.

A lot depends on the size of the school, too. |
