Strolling Question?
 

My fraternity is a fairly new one and nobody really knows about us around the area. We've only done community service and haven't really got into the stepping and strolling thing. We're an all black chapter and we anxiously want to start strolling but the problem is we don't want any big D9 organizations to be offended if it looks like we're doing something that they're well known of doing. I see sigmas hop as well as ques and iotas, kappas are the only ones who shimmy but who's to say they can only be the ones who do certain moves. Also I know kappas and sigmas use canes but if another non D9 organization wanted to use canes or carry canes do you think they'll catch hell? Do any non D9 organizations use canes, shimmy or hop if they stroll at all? I honestly don't know so can somebody enlighten me?

I'm sure not many will touch this but I want to help.

1. You do not have to step and stroll just because you are in an all black chapter or organization.

2. It's probably not smart to do the signature moves that D9 orgs have been doing for years. Would you want another group doing the signature moves your chapter or org came up with?

3. It's not that hard to be creative and come up with your own style, steps, and moves, especially if you want to be respected. Many non D9 groups do this all the time.

Yeah, just don't step and stroll. Distinguishing yourself through service is far more important. I wish some NPHC chapters would get that memo as well, so this isn't about any distaste for non-NPHC orgs.
