Spring Recruitment at UTexas

Does anyone know any information about spring recruitment at UT? I've been trying to find out info, but I can't seem to find any anywhere.

Titchou 11-27-2014 08:14 AM

Have you called the Greek Life office? They have the information.

AZTheta 11-27-2014 12:22 PM

Oh goodness - you can't find anything anywhere?

The info the OP requested is not on the link you used to flaunt your snark.

Perhaps that is why she asked.

I can see how this is a little confusing.

The Dean of Students Fraternity and Sorority life website seems to show here that Panhellenic sororities only have organized recruitment in the fall.

However, UT posts their Spring 2014 Pahnellenic grade rankings here and it clearly shows that almost half the sororities have new members.

I found an old post from the Texas Panhellenic website here that possibly explains how Spring Recruitment works.

Whoa. Settle down. It was actually pretty funny and clever the link AZTheta provided. She was making a point. The point is that the OP can find something of value by checking out Google. She can also check out the Greek Life webpages of her chosen campus. It really isn't that hard.

OP, I've noticed that even using Google doesn't give you the desired results. I'm thinking that some of the sororities that may be participating in sorority recruitment in the spring may not have been announced yet. Call the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life and check out the link I am providing for FAQs. Prepare yourself and go in with a good attitude. Good luck!

Really -- where? Even the thread participants reaching to redeem your link's results cannot find current info on spring recruitment at UT. Which is probably why the OP asked -- I'm pretty sure a college student at UT knows about Google. ;)

For all the time you have invested so far to show off snark and show up a 19 or 20-year-old, you could have linked it if it existed.

A great deal of info regarding questions asked in this forum can be located using google. But the rude and unoriginal "let me google it" served no purpose other than snark -- especially since Titchou previously answered the OP's question with the appropriate answer.

No wonder questions in this section of the forum have diminished so over time.

Hmmm.... I thought that questions in this section had dropped off because most (NOT ALL) schools have completed formal recruitment, so girls are not looking at rush now. So few spots are available on many (NOT ALL) campuses for an informal Spring rush.

I wasn't reaching to find current results for spring. I noted that there may not be much information since chapters probably haven't started putting information out there for spring recruitment. If you scroll down once clicking on AZTheta's link, you'll notice one thread from GC that talks about spring recruitment at UT being almost non-existent. That was a pretty straightforward response, if you ask me. I find it ironic that you are talking to AZTheta with such disdain for being snarky and hateful yet, you feel the need to try and place the blame of few questions in this section of the forum solely on her. Aren't you being just as mean as you claim AZTheta to be? It may have, as Thetalady stated, to do with the fact that many people aren't looking for spring recruitment information in November.

What exactly is your problem? This is not the first time you have attacked me (or others). I suggest you simply put me on ignore, because that's what I'm doing for you. Your vitriol is all out of proportion to my post. Others have used LMGTFY in similar contexts, and you have not attacked them.

I'll pray for you.

There was nothing straightforward or polite about the "let me google that for you" response. Except snark directed to a (likely) teenaged girl. You can google it. ;)

A straightforward response like the one you mentioned actually would be appropriate -- even helpful -- assuming it came from someone with experience in UT recruitment.

No. She is an adult with thousands of posts on this forum, not a young college student, who is a new member, posting her first question to the forum.

I'm not placing the blame on any one member -- more so perhaps on a culture of snark where some members show off at the expense of young PNMs and are reinforced for it by others.

The lack of questions from PNMs was noticed last summer, prior to fall recruitment. And the manner in which new forum members (PNMs) are sometimes treated was noted as a reason. There is a thread on the topic entitled "Where to go for recruitment advice:"

Excellent comment by Sciencewoman on that thread:

It has been slow around here. I know what I'd rather do...answer the recruitment questions and be nice to 18-year-olds...if I'm on here, I'm interested in reading their posts and questions (as well as referring PNMs to the helpful, stickied threads).

It was hard for me to answer the way I did and snark was part of my intention. The OP said she couldn't find ANY ANYWHERE. AZTheta's response was HERE IS SOME INFORMATION. And it's obvious the OP hadn't even called the Greek Life office because they would have given her SOME information...or else she just lied and said she couldn't find ANY so we'd be more sympathetic and do her work for her. If she had asked what is the best source for information on spring recruitment, that would have been a horse of a different color. But she didn't and I took her question at face value.

Hart, I'm sure that your two lovely, perfect daughters never asked for help before they had exhausted all efforts but not all teenagers are like that. Some are lazy and expect to be spoon fed. Most of us here don't cotton to that.

To the OP,
I have been involved on different levels with a chapter at UT for almost 30 years. The Greek Life office may or may not know which groups will be taking members in the Spring. It is usually done under the radar unless a chapter is way under total and practices COB. Some chapters will take a few but frankly these girls are handpicked from girls they already know and are hanging out with. My recommendation to you would be to go through formal in the Fall unless you already have an inside track and are friends with members. Spend the Spring getting to know people, keeping your grades high and involving yourself with other organizations on campus where you are likely to make connections. And by all means contact Greek Life before you leave for Winter Break to get you name on a list if there is one.

I'm actually kind of sorry to hear that -- especially after giving you credit for an appropriate and polite response.

Maybe she meant she couldn't find any info online (which is true, considering the links provided so far) -- or maybe she didn't know she should call the Greek Life Office. Maybe she was hoping that someone with experience at UT would respond. Maybe she didn't know that she should exhaust all possible avenues of information before asking a question on this forum. Maybe she didn't know she should word her question in a different way in order to avoid eliciting snark. Or maybe she didn't know her question would be interpreted quite so literally ("ANY ANYWHERE").

MAYBE we should give her the benefit of the doubt, since she is young and obviously new to this process, instead of assuming that she "lied" so others would "do her work for her."

Perhaps this is part of the difference in perception/interpretation -- those of you who are not parents may interpret and treat questions differently than some of us who are parents -- especially those of us who have experienced a daughter participating in recruitment.

Surely you wouldn't treat a question from a PNM in real life with snark, a lecture, or an insinuation that she is lazy? So why is it okay in this forum?
