Shooting at Florida State University

Shooter was an FSU alumnus who attended Texas Tech for law school. He was in the area "studying for an exam." I'm guessing that he was sitting for the February bar exam. And probably didn't have a job.

From Taunton's FB page:
"Taunton Family Children's Home
Our hearts are broken for the students involved in the FSU shooting last night and for Myron May's family.
Myron was staying temporarily at the Children's Home in one of our Guest Cabins for the few weeks while looking for a place to rent in Wewahitchka.
He was a long-time friend of our family, ran cross-country with our boys and was a frequent visitor at our house during his teen years.
He was an accomplished attorney, having graduated with honors from Texas Tech, practicing in Houston, Texas and then later in New Mexico.
He recently decided to move back home and open a practice in this area. He had begun his studies to take the Florida Bar in February.
He was not an employee of the Children's Home, merely a temporary guest.
No one who knew him would've dreamed this was possible even though he was having some financial issues and seemed a little down occassionaly as most people are at times. He undoubtedly had other problems of which we were unaware.
Our hearts are saddened at the loss of a bright young man who we thought had a bright future. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and to Myron's family."

I read this on ABC this morning. Crazy. In the chaos, he didn't even feel the impact of the bullet.

My daughter's boyfriend has 2 sisters who attend FSU. I was very happy to hear that they both decided to forgo going to the library yesterday.

It sounds like the shooter was mentally ill. Pretty sad, actually.

There were signs of trouble in Las Cruces in two police reports this fall, one for suspicious circumstances and another for harassment.

"He advised me that over the past two weeks he was almost certain that there was [a] camera somewhere located in the interior of his residence," a September police report stated. "He believes he was being watched and observed. He stated that he can constantly hear voices coming through the walls specifically talking about actions he was doing."

May told the officer that what had convinced him he was being watched occurred when he got out of a bubble bath and began to put lotion on his skin. "At which point he specifically stated he heard voices say did you see that, he never puts lotion on," the police affidavit stated.

In October, police were called to his the home of his ex-girlfriend Danielle Nixon and she reported an incident where he had handed her a piece of his car that he claimed was a camera that police had put in his vehicle.

"According to [the woman], Myron has recently developed a severe mental disorder. Myron believes that the police are after him and are bugging his phone and car as well as placing cameras in his home and car," the police report stated.

Ugh. This is a terrible situation all around. We are all very fortunate that there were no other injuries, and that everyone who was shot survived.

This is a pretty big story in my hometown due to its proximity to Tallahassee; also, the family who had taken him in over the years is close by. In true small town fashion, the local paper interviewed several people who "knew him," however tangentially.

News reports indicate that he was a member of Phi Beta Sigma.

^Unacceptable and not a time to make jokes at the expense of Florida State University. I'm not even an FSU alumna and I find this statement trying to be funny in bad taste.

^Just tacky. Go away, troll.

I'm sure he'll get banned again anyway. 'Tis the season for banning, it seems.
