Aaliyah Lifetime Movie: 8:00pm on November 15

I will be watching. The trailer/commercial is amazing. This actress did a good job looking and acting like Aaliyah. Wow. It is like watching her actual videos.

This is apparently produced by Wendy Williams and Aaliyah's family didn't want the movie made perhaps partly because it includes her short marriage to R. Kelly.

RIP "Baby Girl". This brings back so many memories. :( I remember the day I heard of her passing. I remember when BET aired a tribute and DMX and Fatima Robinson (who was at the video shoot) were crying. I remember Missy Elliott and Timbaland struggling to deal. Timbaland supposedly stayed away from the industry for a while and then shifted his musical focus.

This has to be a remake. There was a movie about her on Lifetime back in the early 2000s.

This is the first and only movie.

Her family tried to do a movie back then but it was rejected because of how they tried to gloss over things like R. Kelly. It took years to get the story and then they switched actresses. Wendy Williams doesn't care that her family is pissed. They can't sue.

I'm good on this one...they aren't even allowed to use her music, which is all I'm there for. I'm familiar with her story anyway. Hopefully those who watch it enjoy...

But if I can sit through half of the TLC movie (I've tried watching 10 times and always stop in the middle), I can certainly sit through the Aaliyah movie. :p

I kinda want to see this, but to be honest, I don't know if Aaliyah really had a story (that warranted a TV movie). She was a good pop star, but the only 2 truly interesting things that I can recall were her marriage and her passing. She was sort of run-of-the-mill during her career :-/

It will be interesting to see how they flesh out this story.

I agree with that. There's really not much to say that isn't reflected in any other teenager's story.

You all were right.

I got disinterested around the time R Kelly exited the movie and Missy and Timbaland entered the movie. Oh yeah and when Damon Dash entered the movie. I eventually turned the channel.

This was like a VH1 Behind the Music but with lazy acting, lazy dancing, and sometimes good and sometimes mediocre singing (Aaliyah wasn't the best singer but she had her style). I think the only reason Wendy Williams was so excited about doing this movie was because she wanted to talk about R Kelly and Aaliyah's relationship. I completely understand why Aaliyah's family did not authorize this movie and why they did not allow the use of Aaliyah's music.

RIP Aaliyah
