depledge/deactivate frequency?
just out of curiosity, im wondering how often do your chapters have people depledge, or deactivate, whichever the case may be. is it a huge deal, or is it easily bowed out of (especially in financial cases). once again, just wondering! thanks! :)

We usually have one girl depledge a year and one go inactive. If she is a new member (pledge), it's no big deal - obviously we are disappointed, but it's not a hassle from a paperwork standpoint or anything. If a sister wants to go inactive, we have to vote on it and she has to have a good reason. Usually these are girls who are going JYA or co-oping off campus, and no one has any problem with that. Maybe one girl a year out and out quits. Again, if it's because she's leaving campus, that's no biggie. It's worse if she's "tired of the chapter" or is a problem member.

We usually loose one or two new members and one or two active members per year. With the new members it's usually either financial or they'll hold-over and then not make grades or something. With actives, it's usually people transfering school or wanting to go alum who aren't in good standing, or sometimes it's people who no longer have the time because they're so involved in their majors. It's rarely because of internal problems.

My chapter very seldom had people deaffiliate, and I don't think anyone's ever depledged. (We initiate fairly quickly though.) We would lose maybe 1 member a year... usually for financial reasons.
We occasionally had members go inactive for a semester - one girl did a semester away, another had mono and basically dropped all her extracurricular activities for the semester. It was no big deal - they just returned the following semester as active members. |
