I'm not sure where to post this.

I was wondering if Moms are allowed to be involved with a sorority. I am not an alumnae. I don't know how everything works. Is this something that is welcomed? Do Moms get together and help the girls if and when needed?

My daughter was offered a bid and well, the sorority isn't as ... solid as some of the others on campus. In comparison to a couple other social media sites I browsed for other sororities, the sorority my daughter may very well belong to isn't as polished or established. I would like to offer my help in crafts, decor and those kind of things. I own my own wedding planning business and I could set the girls up with very nice, custom things for presentation. Who makes the decisions?

For example, in many pictures, the girls are wearing different color and style shoes. This looks tacky to me. Their letters, while cute, look outdated. Their social media sites don't have the cutest images and clip art. Mostly plain and not updated frequently.

Could I potentially help the sorority being a non greek?

How can I provide tips and pointers for the girls?

I'm a little disappointed because this sorority has SO much potential to really sparkle.

First, let your daughter enjoy her NM period before jumping in to help. Let her establish herself among her new sisters without "mom" being involved.

Most likely the chapter has a parents or mothers weekend during the year. This will be a great time for you to get to know more of the women in the chapter and learn how open they are to parental support.

Honestly, it'll vary between chapters and schools. One group may not only openly welcome but downright expect parental support. Another might have zero clue what to do with such an offer and may say no thanks.

It's one thing to say that you want to help because you're excited for your daughter and want to support her in any way possible. It's another thing entirely to say that you want to lend a hand because you think the members' sense of style is tacky and outdated. Listen to SoCalGirl's advice on this one.

Our chapter had moms and other relatives who did crafty things similar to what you are talking about. Upon meeting the moms, if they said they did {insert crafty thing here} and said "if you ever need anything, just let me know!" we would have been thrilled.

However, if the mom would have just barrelled in and tried to tell us what to do and why what we were doing was subpar - whether she was Greek or not - her information would not have been welcome. The LAST thing you want is for your daughter to be known as the PNM with the pushy mom.

And another thing is, that may be the campus style in general. I still can't believe hordes of beautiful young women are running around the south in Nikes and running shorts when they're not exercising, but such is life. Unless of course, you mean you browsed the NATIONAL websites of the groups and came to this conclusion, and then that's just a big ginourmous :eek:
