Thin It to Win It?
Hi everyone,
Has anyone ever done the "Thin It to Win It" fitness challenge before? From what I can tell, it's a health/weight loss competition held over 6-weeks where the goal is to lose 6% body weight or maintain at 1% (if you're at your goal weight already). The premise is that getting healthy is more successful and fun when done as a group and when there's some kind of "prize" offered. First people ante up the $22.49 to join in. Then, over the 6-weeks, you log in to earn points by doing things like reading the daily readings or posting encouragement on the participation wall. Of course, this whole time I suppose you're supposed to be exercising and eating right. Then, at the end of the 6 weeks, people who achieve the 6% goal and have enough points get to split the proceeds from the money pot. The money prize wouldn't be a lot; but, you'd probably get your ante back. https://www.meltdownchallenge.com/ch...618/MTU3NDM%3D I tried to do a search for this and couldn't find it mentioned yet. I know a few people who had fun doing this. Anyone try it before? |
No one? Well, I decided to go ahead, sign up and give it a try. I'll report back on how it went!

I didn't do this exact thing, but I am finishing up something very similar with a group of friends. I'm SO glad it's soon over. For me, it just became about trying to game the system rather than being happy I was making better choices (I went through the same thing with weight watchers). Plus all the record keeping drove me nuts. Basically it was 6 weeks of being annoyed and obsessing about food all the time. Meanwhile, most of the group loved it. I think it depends on what your particular psychological makeup is if it works for you.

We did something similar at my office a few years ago, and I was wildly successful with it - because I had two friends doing it with me who made it fun.
I drew up a fake "sabotage plan" for one of the guys that involved digging a pit, filling it with nacho cheese, covering the pit with Doritos, and placing a chocolate cake on the far side of the pit. We "accidentally" left the plan in a folder on his desk. Creative stuff like that and camaraderie work for me. I lost 25 pounds and won $250. Highly recommended. |
