Moving back home
 

Ran into one of my daughter's friends at lunch today. She told me a bunch of girls were leaving school and moving back home to go to the local college. Many of these girls had pledged soros. Some are represented locally, others are not.

Does this happen a lot? Do soros kind of expect a certain number of pledges to leave each year? WHY in the world would anyone want to return HOME!

I know that we've had girls leave school for various reasons... some just got bad grades so their parents made them come home, others missed home. I don't think we expect girls to leave, but unfortunately some do. I go to a fairly large commuter school however, so many girls still live at home and commute. I agree with you though- why anyone would want to move back home? Fortunately I only live 15 minutes away from my hometown of Ann Arbor so I live just far enough away, but yet not too far that I can't drop by for dinner or to do laundry (well actually to leave my laundry for my mom :D )

My school had its share of commuters, but most of the students were from suburbs of Columbus and lived on campus, so they were also less than 40 minutes from home. Most of them were home every weekend.

I've always thought it was strange... I mean this is when you're supposed to start doing things yourself. And you're young enough that you usually want your freedom and lots of it!

I don't think my GLO ever expected anyone to go back home. There were a handful of people who transferred, but it was almost always for financial reasons. Most of them didn't want to go, but couldn't afford it. :(

I'm one of those weird people who want to go home! I'm very, very close to my family, and I feel like I'm missing out on so much by being at school. It amazes me that I've made it through two and a half years living at school during the week. I have plenty of freedom at home, and since I've never been the "party girl" type, I don't have to worry about my parents getting mad about me coming home drunk because that's never been an issue. As much as I like my sorority, my real family comes first.

Since A&M was a large school there is always a percentage that fail out unfortunately but that is usually the main reason people left. We are not a commuter school and most people did not go home unless there wasn't anything going on that weekend. I LOVE my mother (and my aunt, uncle etc...)but I do not ever ever want to live less than 1.5 hrs from my family unless I have to. I could not wait to leave home and haven't been back since for longer than 3 months. I spent 1 summer when I was in vet. school at home and I wanted to scream ( my mom is a neat freak-I am not). My mother would love it if I would move home-she calls me everyday wondering when I am going to visit and she usually comes up about 1/month.

My brother is different. He wen to UTSA which is a huge commuter school in San Antonio and he lived at home until he was 28 years old-then he got married.

People get homesick sometimes... I knew a girl who was a junior transfer when I was a freshman. She had deliberately not rushed at her old school, because her plan had been to transfer to my school, so she decided to wait and join a sorority there. She did... and a few months later she got so homesick that she transferred back to her old school, which was near home. Her sorority didn't have a chapter there, unfortunately.

Once I left home, though, it was for good. If I hadn't met my husband and moved in with him before I graduated, I would have just found a job somewhere and gotten an apartment nearby. After 18 years of living with my folks, I've had enough. :)
