Rushing and Boyfriend Question...

I am a Senior in high school and I'll be going to CSU Chico next year. For a long time I have wanted to be in a sorority but recently someone told me that while you're a pledge the other sorority members can tell you who you can or cannot date/ They will encourage you to date fraternity members rather than long time high school boyfriends.

I'm sure this is just a rumor but I was just wondering if any of you could tell me the truth ahout this subject. Please let me know. Thanks!

I can't speak for all sororities or all chapters, but from what I've seen this is completely not true! I don't know anyone in any sorority who has been told to date a specific type of person. If/when you go through recruitment, you can ask your Rho Chi (or recruitment counselor) this question and not have to worry about how it looks on you, because Rho Chis are deaffiliated from their sororities so you have nothing to worry about. They are there to answer your questions... but I don't think you're going to hear an answer that you don't want to hear :)

(And if a sorority is going to dictate who you can and can't date... then maybe you don't want to be a part of them anyway :))

Definitely a rumor. Don't let ignorant comments keep you from rushing. Most people who speak negatively about Greek Life usually know very little about it. Go through Rush and see for yourself! :) Please let us know if you have any more questions - and check out the Rush Forum to read more about the specifics of rushing. Good luck! :D

No one will tell you who you can or can not date. Not to worry at all.

But I do have to say one good thing about sorority sisters- if you are single- they are the best about setting you up on dates, especially for events and dances. You never have to worry about going stag! :)

Good luck with your senior year!!

Sue

This is not true, but if you're still concerned, ask the members whether there are events your boyfriend can attend. If they give you slack, you know they are not worth your time. But honestly, almost all will tell you about all about their Formals and date parties! ;)
