TSM: How To Be Awesomely Involved In Your Chapter (Without Being On Exec)

Quote:

Let’s face it–not all sorority girls are cut out to be executive board members. Even if they were, most chapters only have 10 to 12 exec officer roles and many more members, meaning even if everyone wanted to be on exec, there simply just wouldn’t be enough room. Sometimes girls have other commitments that don’t leave them with the time to serve their chapter in one of these important roles, either. A lot of times, we measure a sister’s involvement by the list of positions she’s held in the chapter. It’s totally possible to be fully involved in your chapter–and be a chapter leader–without having an official title. Even if an exec position isn’t in the cards for you, here are some ways to still be a committed member of your chapter.

Oh TSM, how I hate how much I enjoy your site.

As much as I am not a TSM fan, this is SO true.

I *gasp* was never on Officer Board/Exec. in undergrad. I was really involved in another org and just never could make it work.

I contributed as the "jack of all trades" member who was willing to help out in any way, even if it wasn't an Exec Position.

I was PR, Sisterhood, Awards, and InterGreek Programming Board (the person who attended our all-greek programming boards meetings and reported back info about Songfest, Homecoming, etc.) chair in my 2.5 years as an active and also usually chaired a party during recruitment (i.e. the person who makes sure that everything for say, House Tours or first party gets set up and taken down.)

I was also down for any "behind the scenes" stuff that needed done like painting the homecoming float, helping people buy/make things for their littles, and was always willing to be a Pearl Pal to NMs.

I think I've served more in an official/officer type capacity as an alumna than I ever did as a collegian.

All of that to say, even if you aren't on Exec, you still matter.

I had an exec office every year I was active, save the first and last semesters, but this article is great. I didn't think I would ever post a TFM or TSM article on the chapter's FB page saying everyone needed to read it, but that's what just happened.

I especially like that it wasn't titled in list form, such as "Six Things You Should Be Doing Even if You Aren't on Exec." Please make those numbered titles go away.
