Frivolous Lawsuits
I just finished my two week "on call" time for jury duty and, although it was a positive experience, I am simply aghast at the number of frivolous lawsuits going on out there! The civil trial for which I was picked had a woman suing the owners of a shopping center because her handbag was stolen from her car while she ran into the pharmacy there. The kicker is that she left her car unlocked!!! Her attorney tried to argue that, since there was a sign at the entrance to the shopping center that the premises were monitored by security, his client was not remiss in leaving the car unlocked and was not out of line in assuming that the security guards would see someone taking her handbag and apprehend them.
It took us all of about 5 minutes to agree that there is no way in heck the owners of the shopping center owe this dumb broad ANYTHING! I swear, some people know NOTHING about a novel concept called taking responsibility for one's own actions! Don't make ME spend my entire day in a courtroom because you were too clueless to be careful, ya know? |
Just realize, no one ius as fault! You mess with me I sue you! Hell it is getting stupid! The only ones who make money is the leagal eagles! DAH!

Tracy I know how you feel,
Thank God vets are not sued as often as Drs. but I had to deal with this psycho bitch (I think she was bipolar or shizophrenic-who knows-literally she was mentally ill) Saturday night at work. Her poor cat Lucky got attacked by a dog and he was brought in not breathing but with a slow heart rate-so about 95% dead. I rescuscitated him and gave her an est. Explained that Lucky was very very very sick and prognosis was poor and this would be expensive. Lady had no money unfortunately but she started getting more and more psycho so the hospital manager ended up having to take over the case Sunday during the day b/c no one else could deal with this woman. She insisted on treatment otherwise most likely lawsuit, so 2200$ and 4 cardiac arrests later poor Lucky finally died. The poor cat was suffering and b/c this psycho probably would bring a lawsuit we had to continue to treat-at least according to my hospital manager . I am sooooooo mad and not very happy with the hospital manager at this time. The society is getting more and more litigious (sp?) and good common sense is getting left behind plus what is rt. for the patient. Had this lady sued us-she would not have won in my opinion b/c she was mentally sick and everyone (about 10 people) in the hospital saw that but we still had to kiss her f**king ass. UGHHHHHHH Sorry i am so mad. |
Karen-
was she mentally ill or just really bereaved about her cat? I know when my Mastiff died, I would have done anything, paid anything to keep her alive and I am sure I seemed mentally inbalnced at the time too! :) Amy |
Amy
she was truly mentally ill, 10 people interacted with her and we interact with bereaved clinets on a daily basis. Everyone knew she was not normal-we can tell with years of experience and she admitted that she had problems. Unfortunately she acted just like my dad who is bipolar so I am use to dealing with that and can usually recognize the dz. What I didn't get though she said she had previously been a nurse, yet had no idea what the needle thing in the arm was called (IV catheter-which is used in humans at hosp.) and she also didn't know about fluid pumps-which I know they have in human hosp. We stressed to her many times that her cat was suffering and she would not let us euthanize Lucky-the poor cat suffered-it was very sad. Unfortunately not all the money in the world could have fixed him. |
Sorry had more to say but an emergency came in. Anyways, Amy I am sooo sorry about your mastiff. I know it is very difficult to lose not only a pet but a family member.

My lawsuit story...
Driving home on the Merritt Parkway (no street lights- just that of the other cars) a deer stood in my path. I swerved to avoid the deer and my car went out of control. I hit the side rail. A car following me slammed into me and then into another car. Both car owners sued me. Because I did not hit the deer and have proof of the dead deer- I had no case. In fact, I got a ticket for illegal lane change. The kicker is one of the guys who sued me is Elmo from Seaseme Street. I now hate Elmo! |
