Sigh. So unfortunate.

UA = University of Arizona
but also
University of Alabama
University of Alberta
University of Akron
University of Alaska
University of Arkansas

? I wrote "University of Arizona" out in the thread title, and in the first post. I am sorry, is there some confusion? Let me know how I can do better. I try always to spell out Arizona b/c of all the other UAs!

As for FIJI, I am waiting until the University finishes its investigation and there is a final resolution. My sympathy to Wilson Forrester's family. No parent should ever ever ever bury a child.

I thought you were pretty clear.

AZTheta 07-29-2014 01:16 PM

And the article, from the TUCSON KVOA Channel 4 NBC affiliate, says this in the opening line: "TUCSON - Within three years, two members of the FIJI fraternity died at the University of Arizona." I believe, then, that it is grammatically and journalistically correct to abbreviate to UofA since the original context was given. Perhaps I am mistaken and SWTXBelle or someone else can help me out here?

And FWIW I am NOT shooting goldfish in a barrel. I do my best to be accurate and I am the first one to apologize or correct an error. Thanks.

Both the article and AZTheta's post are extremely clear in which University is being discussed.

It's okay, I've climbed down from the top of the telephone pole now. Just worried sick about the status of the fraternities and sororities in Arizona and this sure didn't help.

As is exlurker's "U of AZ." And yes, AZTheta, once the article has made clear that it's the University of Arizona that is being discussed, UofA is perfectly fine on subsequent references—assuming that's the style the University uses.

Here's the University of Arizona's decision on the chapter. The official letter is in a sidebar to the article.
