Just one left?!
 

So, as an incoming freshman, I have letters for every sorority for recruitment this fall, but one. I am extremely disappointed, as this one sorority is one that I find myself extremely interested in after a little research.
What should I do? Should I contact their president/rush chair?

Rush is extremely competitive at my school and letters are required to proceed to the next round... Please help! If there are previous posts, please link me to them! Anything will help!

Where do you live? Have you asked evveryone who is doing one if they know someone in that group? Have you checked to see if there is an alumnae chapter for them in your area? Have you check your local alumnae Panhellenic?

Don't contact the sorority directly. There's no contact between members and PNMs before and during recruitment, except at parties and in class. You could give them a recruitment infraction and they WON'T appreciate it.

Besides doing what Titchou said, you can ask the people who wrote your references if they know someone in that organization that you need.

If you can't find someone locally, you can also check to see if there is alumnae association for that organization near the school and ask if they can help you.

Contact the headquarters of the sorority and politely ask if they can put you in touch with anyone in your local area. You haven't exhausted all possibilities. Bear in mind that many sororities are in the Convention mode and you won't get an immediate response.

And - it goes without saying - don't form opinions based on what you read online or what you think you like about a philanthropy. When you get to campus you may not like any of the members in that group! You're not in a position to judge anything. Keep an open mind and don't listen to tent talk or gossip.

You could also make a post on Facebook saying "I am excited to be participating in recruitment this fall at ABC University. I have worked hard to line up all my recommendation letters but still lack one from XYZ sorority as I haven't been able to locate an alumna** of that organization. Would anyone have any leads on someone who is an alumna of that sorority?"

** note correct spelling of alumna. Please do not use alumni. We are all women

^^^Or better yet...ask your mom to make the same request on HER Facebook.

^^^ yes. And I have advised PNMs to make their post settings for such a request to 'friends of friends' so that mom (or anyone else) can share the daughter's post. That way it still comes across like daughter is doing all the work. I definitely agree that getting it into mom's social circle is the key.

Especially if mom and daughter are where I assume they are from the OP's username, this shouldn't take more than 2 shakes of a lamb's tail.

Thanks, y'all! My mom just remembered a friend who had a connection to that sorority, so hopefully things will work out. I plan on asking around a little more, just to be sure I'm covered. This particular sorority is unfortunately unrepresented in our local Panhellenic Almuna group.

And I was interested in this particular sorority after meeting them at the greek fair during our orientation week. I still have an open mind, and am (not so patiently) awaiting recruitment week! I don't want to miss a chance with any of the sororities so I'm crossing my Ts and dotting my Is.
Truthfully, I couldn't care less about top/middle/lower tiers, as long as I'm comfortable and feel like I've found a group of women with a real sisterhood that's truly welcoming.

After reading some of the stories here, I plan on making a recruitment story thread, if I'm not too exhausted by the end of each day! It was hard to find current stories at UT-Austin (surprise, I'm sure you couldn't tell from the "hook em" in my username lol).
