40 acres and a mule Tax Break
Has anybody here heard about a so-called tax break for American citizens of African decent? Supposedly there is a tax break for African-Americans that are decendents of slaves; and this "tax break" is supposed to be the government's way of issuing reparations. There is a number being circulated for people to call for the forms required to receive it. Has anyone else heard of this?
What would yall do if it were true? Would you feel guilty receiving it? Suppose the amount you received was $10,000? Would that be enough to make up for enslaving your great-great-great-grandparents? |
Black Inheritance tax?
Is this the same thing as the Black Inheritance Tax that Soror Jody was talking about on AKA ave? If it is, she said it was a hoax. I haven't heard of it, though.
But.... if it were true, I wouldn't feel guilty about receiving it, even though no amount would be enough to make up for the injustice of slavery. To be honest, to actually see a government official (Republican, preferably!!! ) get up on national TV and say... "We're sorry for slavery, the senseless murders, the lynchings, the tar and featherings, the years of degradations that have had an irreversable effect on a race of what were once Kings and Queens, and the horrible acts of perversions that our ancestors performed against your race. And yes, racism still exists - we'd like to sit down with black leaders and try to finally come up with real solutions  ..." would be enough for me. |
No, it would not make up for slavery, racism, and the rest of the B.S. that black folks have put up with, but it damn sure would make a good start!:)

Tax Break mis-take
In my opinion I think that no amount of money will suffice me for the enslavement of my ancesters. I beleive that it would merely be a sad attempt at a payoff to finally and once and for all quiet the voice of strong black leaders. This would forever be hung over the heads of African-Americans as our big payoff and their argument would be "so what are we complaining about now they got their money". No, don't give me a portion of the bank, the bank is ours. My forefathers acted as a catalyst to this great economy in a way in which was against his free will and now you want to say "here is a peice of it now will you shut up". No, a fair percentage of the people who will obtain the money will most likely spend a fair share of it on FUBU and Tommy Hill. We are the biggest consumers with the smallest amount of return investments afterall. We need more black owned and operated buisness' and more brothers and sisters in the head corporate offices who are concius and care about their people. I think I may have gotten on my little soapbox and off of the topic a bit but it all pertains to my Spec Original Apes' question.

THESE ARE A BUNCH OF HOAXES!!!!
If you type in Black inheritance tax refund in Yahoo you can pull up a number of article on the scams going around about the tax break. (see http://theskanner.com/011219/pdxnews_01.html)Only Congress could give a tax break and if they did, trust it would not be a secret. The NAACP would be publiczing it on every corner! The real danger is that people will call the number and give their PERSONAL INFO   because a forwarded email said to and they don't even know who they are talking to. As for reparations- I cannot even begin to imagine what could make up for the injustices this country ha committed. Or undue the lingering results of the injustices. Still, any tax break is a good taax break if it is for me!:D |
This is sort of a tangent, but a previous poster (yeti?) talked about the need for more black businesses. There, IMO, was one of the great weaknesses of the civil rights movement -- it didn't mix in economic development.
Many people aren't cut out for business ownership, including myself. My mind works better with words, not numbers. ;) But we should have also thought about creating such opportunities back in the 1960s. If we had a stronger economic base in-house, I think we wouldn't feel as vulnerable or threatened when there's talk about busting a cap into affirmative action in publicly funded universities or for government jobs. Aint yall heard...?
'bout the sista suing Aetna, CSX, and other corporations for profiting from the enslavement of her great-great-grandparents? Well her case is in the news. What are your feelings on REPARATIONS? Do you think it's justified? Do you think she will prevail in her case?
|
Yes, sir. I think that it is justified. Who knows what will happend?Anything is possible. We didn't think that 2 AAs would win Oscars for LEADING roles, then in the SAME night! It just seems that this sista is "on her own," I don't know. I guess she will get more support if it seems as if she were "winning the battle".
I wonder how those AAs feel that work for those companies are handling this? I wonder if they care at all that their "employer" if you will, supported slavery? Heck, almost everyone(entity) supported slavery...lol  NOW, I'm glad our district got rid of that Aetna coverage. |
I feel ya!
Mine did too!
It just goes to show ya how DIVIDED WE ARE! |
