Another step backward - hazing at UW

I just heard a very disheartening news brief:

According to a Seattle TV news report this morning (major network), the Delta Kappa Epsilon chapter at the University of Washington has been kicked off campus by the IFC for hazing. Allegations include beatings and sleep deprivation.

This story only received about 30 seconds of air time, but it was more than enough! Thusfar, I haven't seen or heard any of the other networks pick it up ... yet.

The DKE chapter at my school (University of British Columbia) this year was disbanded & re-colonized following a much-needed house-cleaning (drug problems, alleged hazing, etc).

I certainly hope that this is not indicative of this fraternally (inter)nationally.

When will enough be enough!? ...

Interesting that DKE says they aren't revoking the charter, even though the frat got the boot. Wonder what that deal is.

I've only seen that happen a few times in my years of experience. I wonder if removing their charter would show added liability for the suit that has been filed? Removing the charter could be seen as admitted guilt?

You're right, it's interesting. I'm sure there's something to it.

I use to live in Seattle and still keep in touch with friends. I understand that several members of DKE are not only members of the Husky football team, but are key players. The chapter also has high numbers. I wonder if that has anything to do with Nationals not pulling their charter? Also, there is no indication that they can not reapply for recognition next year...

Just thoughts...
