"Jordan"

With backing from his friends at Nike, the king of endorsements will join the ranks of Oprah, by putting his energy into his new magazine, "Jordan."

Hearst Magazines will publish and distribute "Jordan," which is described as an "aspirational" lifestyle magazine for the 16 to 21 year-old set. No news on when the new glossy will hit newsstands or whether or not Jordan, like Oprah, will appear on every cover.

Jordan

Much to my chagrin, I have heard that the only black women in his life are his mom, wife and sisters. And we all know he is going to be minus Juanita very soon. At the risk of sounding like a "hater" I don't predict very good things for "Airness" in the coming years. At least not personally. Professionally, he is still balling. I've also heard that he is an ambivalent parent! Boooo!

I don't think that I'll be ordering a subscription to this one. I haven't really bought in to the celebrity magazines at all. My mom likes the Oprah magazine, but I don't. It's just like her show, and at this point, I don't like that too much either. I'll stick with my InStyle, Glamour, Marie Claire, and Essence. Oh, and of course, the best news magazine in the country, JET!

I'm too old for Jordan's target market. These days, for light reading, I prefer Essence, Vogue, InStyle, New York and Town & Country (yeah, I know it's snobby but I like it :p). I bought O because it had interesting fashion this month, but am not planning to subscribe.

I miss Mode, because it showed quality clothes on women size 12 and up. :(

I am with you on this one! I was a faithful and paid subscriber to Mode and waited every month for a new issue. I was sad to see it go. But in its place, I now read Lucky magazine!! Great for those who love to shop, shop, and shop!

Now as for Mike, Oprah, Mary Kate & Ashley, Rosey and the rest of these celebs turned publishers-- they all suck in my opinion. And while Mike may be a great basketball player, it takes more than a 3 pointer to run a successful (meaning profitable) magazine. Magazine publishing is an expensive and BRUTAL business, so I hope he has found the right demographic and done the best market research possible.

My prediction-- one year in publication.

Magazine update

The New York Times reports that Mode, the size 12-plus magazine which went out of business last fall, is going to be reincarnated this spring as Grace. This is good to see.

Hmmmmmmmm

I wonder if the magazine will be as expensive as the food in his restaurant in Chicago $12.00 for a hamgurger and thats with no fries or a drink!
