Chapter Yearbooks?
I'm curious if any of your chapters or Greek systems put together a hardcopy yearbook for sale.
I've thought about this a couple times over the years as I've lost pictures, and eventually had to throw out my "mini" composites due to damage (they were too big to be stored easily). I would have loved to have a hardcopy yearbook from my sorority - each with the composite and a general smattering of photos from the whole chapter. It would have been so much easier to story and keep pristine. Plus, I didn't appreciate the fact that I'd want to have photos on hand of some of my sisters with whom I've lost contact. Anyway, I saw this website today, and totally fell in love: http://yearbooks.picaboo.com/product/ They have a sorority-themed example: http://www.flipdocs.com/showbook.asp...0009858_670756 I just think this would be such an amazingly cute idea at a pretty reasonably price point, and they include free personalized pages for each person to add in their own photos. Did any of you all had chapter yearbooks or see chapters now doing this? |
We had a soft-cover Greek-wide yearbook called The Frieze that came out each year. It had each groups' composite along with collages for each chapter, and pictures from Greek Week, Homecoming, etc. It was VERY popular. We had a blast looking through the pictures when we had an alumnae get-together a few years ago.

Ohio State had a hard-back Greek yearbook in the 80s, called The Encore. I know 10 years later it no longer existed based on feedback I received from younger members.
I have 2 books on my shelf and have used it as reference when I met people later in life that I hadn't years earlier. |
Hrm, I wonder if these kinds of yearbooks went by the wayside as Greeklife lost momentum in the 90s.
I'm sure many collegiates now feel that Facebook, Instagram and others are excellent repositories for these memories, but I still think that nothing beats a hardcopy for long-term nostalgia. |
During the time we had a Greek yearbook, the school did not have a yearbook. Once the school yearbook was reorganized, the Greek one went away.

It's not exactly the same as what you are talking about, but many of the chapters with whom I work have gone to yearly electronic scrapbooks (shutterfly, etc) instead of the handmade ones we all had. They often offer the option for chapter sisters to order a copy.
