Mtv?
Did anyone else get an e-mail like this...?
Hi Girls, MTV is putting together a documentary about sorority life across America. We're currently in the initial stages of research, and we need your help. We are focusing on girls who are sorority members and also young women who are in the process of pledging. We'd like to spend a day in the life of six different sorority girls, to find out what Greek life is all about. Think Real World goes to college. If you are interested in being interviewed please e-mail newsgrlmtv @aol.com a short profile about yourself including your sorority and college. While I think this would be cool, I doubt they'd film it in a very good light. |
while i think the idea would be cool and interesting for girls like myself that are interested in rushing, i also think things could do a 180 and instead of it being a positive thing, it would promote rush as a negative thing. You know how the media is, and everyone is all for making shows "interesting"

This kind of thread comes up once or twice a year.
Every GLO who hears about this kind of thing warns its' members to stay away. It is very unlikely that the "journalists" at MTV or any company working on this kind of project for them would show the Greek System in anything but a highly sensationalized light. We don't need that. |
this has been brought up twice b4

Cameras Not Welcome...
I know that many, if not all, national GLO chapters have been told by their individual headquarters to stay away from MTV's lovely little documentaries  . I would hope that no chapter would allow their members to be filmed for something like this.

Whatever you do, don't do it. It is not worth it. You will inevitably be shown in a bad light to suit the needs of MTV's controvery quota.

Seems kinda strange that they would be using an AOL based email addy...
|
just a thought...
While the old threads sound as if this could be legitimate (sp?)--I would think the email LeslieAGD received was not from MTV. I am just assuming--but look at the email address--- ***@aol.com. Wouldn't a producer from MTV have an ***@mtv.com address.
Just a thought.... |
---Sorry Beef--looks like we posted at the same time!! :)
|
First of all, you are assuming that the request actually came from MTV. Unless, I had independent verification I wouldn't give them or anyone any info about me, etc. without authentication.
Second, MTV???? I'm sure your nationals would just love that. They would probably want their cams on the 2nd floor of the sorority house..lol. For sure they would want you in your pjs and for ya'll to have a pillow fight. Personally, I think its some dude testing how gullible somebody might be. |
Phi Mu headquarters emailed all the chapters saying we can't represent phi mu if mtv comes. I guess it's better that way so PNM's don't see a phi mu in one place and stereotype them everywhere.

While Leslie might not have gotten a legitimate email, it got brought up in our business meeting last nite about this MTV Road Rules thing having to do with sorority and fraternity houses. All sororities--at least if they are Panhel--- are not allowed to do this. Hence the reason why they blur out sorority letters and names on Real World, etc. I'm surprised the fraternities allow this.
|
If MTV is supposed to be blurring out sorority names, they sure aren't doing a very good job. On the first episode of the new season of Real World in Chicago, Keri is seen wering a blue t-shirt that says Zeta Tau Alpha Bid Day on the chest pocket area. Maybe they didn't think anyone would see, but I have eagle-eyes!!:p
Oh P.S. Does anyone know what fraternity Mike form New York is in at Miami? |
KristiAZD,
In answer to your question, Mike in Real World is a Theta Chi; he wore his shirts practically everyday! |
