Don't forget this is also Salvation Army Doughnut Day weekend. I love the little paper doughnut tags they give out when you donate! A few banks in our area have Salvation Army Donut Day boxes for donations in their lobby this week, too.

Hmmm... June 6th? Normandy, D-Day June 6, 1944. Better reason to remember than a celebration of fat-grenades!
However, a fat grenade sounds pretty good just now!

I've never heard of this, nor have I ever seen SA volunteers publicly seeking donations anytime other than Christmas. Maybe a regional thing? I just looked at the website of the local Salvation Army and there's no mention of it.

Based on what I did find on the web at other SA sites (see above) it goes back to the SA providing doughnuts to soldiers in France during WWI.
