Alpha Chapters

I can't believe this has never been asked before, but I did a search and nothing came up...

Where is everyone's Alpha Chapter (or whatever designator your GLO/BGLO uses for your first chapter) located and is it still active?

Delta Zeta's is at Miami University of Ohio, Oxford, OH and is still very much active.

Tri Delta's Alpha Chapter is at Boston University, but I am unsure if it is still active...

Sigma Kappa's Alpha Chapter was at Colby College in Maine.
There is no longer a Greek system at Colby College and therefore our Alpha Chapter no longer exists. :(

Alpha Phi...

Alpha Phi was founded at Syracuse University in 1872. The chapter and our sorority celebrates 130 years of sisterhood this year.

Chi Omega was founded at the University of Arkansas on April 5th, 1895 (an Aries like me!)-- we don't call it Alpha-- and damn I we call it PSI I believe (sorry am old and memory is going! lol) --one of the other XOs will correct me if I am wrong.

Zeta Tau Alpha's Alpha Chapter is at Longwood College in Farmville, Va. I believe Kappa Delta and Alpha Sigma Alpha were also founded there so they have three alpha chapters!

Beta Theta Pi's Alpha Chapter is at Miami of Ohio (August 8, 1839), and they are pretty strong there. They have had a rough recent history, but have turned it around in the past few years.

Note: Beta Theta Pi's Gamma Chapter, located at Washington and Jefferson, was established on June 1, 1842 and was the first fraternity established at W&J and in Pennsylvania, and is currently the oldest chapter in continuous existance in the world. :)

Alpha Omicron Pi was founded at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City on Jan 2, 1897.

Unfortunately in 1913, Barnard decreed that initiations into fraternities were to be suspended for 3 years. So by 1915, all the groups, including AOII, had graduated it members, and our Alpha ceased to exist....

On the bright side, by that time, AOII had 16 chapters around the US by then, but Alpha is still close to our hearts :)

Ours is at the University of Virginia.

However, our first chapter is called Zeta

Alpha Gamma Delta's Alpha Chapter is at Syracuse Univ. in Syracuse, NY. It all began May 30, 1904. It is very unfortunate that they will be closing as of this spring. :(

Our first chapter, Illinois Alpha, is still doing well at Monmouth College!

Alpha Chi Omega's Alpha Chapter is at Depauw University in Greencastle, Indiana and is still active and thriving. We were founded October 15, 1885!!! I also believe that Kappa Alpha Theta was founded at Depauw.....

TKE's Alpha chapter is at Illinois Wesleyan University and is still active.

Alpha Phi Omega's Alpha Chapter was founded at Lafayette College in Easton, PA on December 16, 1925. It closed in 1988 but is re-petitioning for active status. Lafyette College maintains a very rich APO archive that includes many documents, paraphernalia, and photos. It even has the Alpha chapter's original charter in VERY good condition! :)

Like AOPi, AEPhi's first chapter was at Barnard College.
