Greek Unity
I want to know what greeks think about the idea of greek unity. What do you think it is important ingredient in having greek unity.
I know that this may have been discussed before but I am using this to prepare information for undergraduates. Thank you |
When I was in undergrad at Morgan State University, All of the Frats got along perfectly. It got to the point where it was hard to distinguish who belonged to which Frat (To the general public). There are three main reason's I can account this to:
1. Joint Ventures- Such as community service events , educational programs, and PARTIES. We always gave discounts to Alpha parties to all greeks (except the ques, they got in for free because they iz our n*ggaz). 2. Public Images- By beefing with other frats or sororities, how can you tell other people that you are a Community Service based group? If people see you acting silly, they label your organization silly! 3. Respect- Just because someone chose another organization over your doesn't mean that they do not like yours. It's just that the other suited them a little better. That doesn't dispute the fact that we are all young educated people trying to make a difference. Because when it comes down to it, the only thing that matters is what you do while you live on this earth! |
I couldn't have said it better Dexter...
Where I come from the greeks are segregated, everyone does there own thing. The BGLO hang out in there own respected groups fueding with each other, and the other GLO's do the same. I for one have always tried to unite the greeks on my campus by throwing different events, but it never fails, I keep getting the same people to everything, no one is interested in intermixing. Unity I believe is the only way to go, because why do people join organizations such as ours? If not to get connections and hook ups. Seriously! I look at it this way the more people you know the better chances you have of connections you make. Why party with JUST 120,000 man or woman because they wear your letters, why not party with 12,562,876 man and woman, because they believe in almost the same thing you....I can make a difference. Unite the Greeks, D |
Believe it or not
Greek Unity will be the KEY to the survival of HBGLO! We are so interelated now that if one does it it affects all of us........example if one org goes out of business there may be a domino effect and the others may soon follow.........Working together eliminates the "gang" steryotype that Pan Hel Greeks have. When I was an interest it was important for me to see the Greeks working together.......I have seen situations where XYZ org was accused of something and ABC org came up and stood up for them! And they were two FRATS! Jokes are in good fun but our founders probably did not create the orgs to conflict with each other but to provide for our communities in common interests! Greeks that are/were on campus. Everytime one org gets in trouble does it not seem like adminstration started watching all of ya to see if you guys were doing the same! Why is that? Because we are grouped together and that really means we need to work, play, study, if necessary pledge and build together!

I must say that I respectfully disagree with all this peace talk. I feel that it is important to maintain our subtle rivalries. It is afterall our differences that stimulate us, the membership, to improve and build upon our legacy. If the Ques have a carwash, the Alphas wash the buses. If the Kappas clean up the campus, then the Alphas clean the city, and if the Sigmas ever do ish, the Alphas will do more... (iota what???) That's just how we do!!!
Some call it ignorance, some call it jokes, but I just call it a way of life. No one made anyone else choose so, since you did choose your org., REPRESENT!!! Now, don't get me wrong, some of my better college memories were spent with greeks of another org, but that doesn't mean that I hang with their LB's just because, or that I will pump them up like I'm receiving some kind of residuals off of their success. And I don't feel that it is neccessary to point out strengths and weaknesses of another organization to help them improve our campus community. The simple fact is, if they could do any better then they would have pledged ALPHA!!! (and Chuck, you're just being nice cuz your Daddy's a Que, so I said it for ya!) |

I'm having sooo much fun with this topic.
The fact is, Bros., we need the Kappas on campus, so none of the gay guys try to pledge ALPHA.
And we need the Ques, because I've never me another grown man with that much time to spend behind a BBQ grill in the summer (or even winter for that matter). We usually are at work or in school. And we need the Sigmas, because every srtrong black man needs a little brother to mentor and show him the error of his ways! And we DON'T need the Iota's, because I said so! On behalf of Morgan State University and my bros who were there in 1963 who let this happen, I humbly apologize. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) |

First of all, That way of thinking is NEOPHYTISH!! When you look at the big picture everyone is working toward the goal. The only difference is that we are taking different paths to get there. As for the subtle rivalries, yeah they will always exist, but be honest O, did we actually beef with other frats or was everyone just cool?
I don't think that Alphas need to hate on anyone because as far as I'm concerned, we set the standards. So respect each other and as a people we can accomplish great things. P.S.- They already know my pops is a que! We covered that last year. Don't make me have go James Evans Sr. on yo' azz!! o yeah, Dom P |

I skee it like this...
 Ya'll are a mess. :D
Respect, honor, and cherish those that paved the way for others. ;) Doing this will not make you any less of a member of XYZ. You can still love your organization and embrace how the whole ideal came to be. This philosophy (for me) applies in my everyday living. I will always respect my "elders" and those that in some way came before and paved the way for me and made ideals realities. :D ;) That's my personal opinion. :D Oh, I forgot..."We" are all connected in some form or fashion. Don't try to deny it, accept it and move on. |
