How terrible.

It bugs me that they posted the YouTube video the guy had made (his retribution video). Reminds me of the manifesto the VT shooter mailed to NBC. I get that it's the press' job to disseminate information, but sharing these guys' last few crazy thoughts is, imo, bad taste. They don't deserve any kind of time in the spotlight.

I watched the video, and he specifically targeted sorority women in it.

Spent four wonderful years in Isla Vista, and at UCSB. Saddened and heartsick about this.

My daughter received a text from Alpha Phi nationals stating that all members of the UCSB chapter are safe and accounted for! My daughter's friend, an alum of UCSB Kappa Alpha Theta has reported the same comforting news about her chapter (although that is via word of mouth, not reported from their national office).

I am heartbroken. Have many friends that have sons and daughters attending UCSB.

This is terrifying. My prayers go out to that entire community.

I almost enrolled in the UCSB doctoral program--if I had, I'd be a 3rd year there with my friend J. I am SO grateful he let us know that he's fine but...the only difference between me being here or in the midst of that tragedy is a decision I made 3 years ago. Life truly is fragile. :(

Just read that the first identified fatality was a Tri Delta. Thoughts and prayers to the ΔΔΔ community at UCSB.

When the hell are people going to realize they aren't owed everything they want, including the affections and good will of others?

You know, that hatred of women thing...I taught in a jail for almost 20 years and we got all kinds of men to get their GEDs, even if they had hated school in the past. The prisoners we could never get anything out of were in the ones who hated women, no matter how hard we tried.:(

I had a client who was the sweetest guy but had serious violent and aggressive thoughts toward women. I had to transfer him to the only male therapist on staff because none of the women felt safe (and probably wouldn't have gotten anywhere in therapy with him). It's so disturbing and yet, the part of me that's interested in how the mind works can't help but wonder how it all started and he got to this point.

Well, I would take this with a big giant grain of salt made up of racism, ablism, homophobia, sexism, etc., but as it applies to this case, yes, if no woman will give you the time of day, IT'S NOT THE WOMEN.

What makes me the angriest about this is there probably WAS some girl out there who found him attractive that he didn't bother to give the time of day.

The gunman aggressively knocked on the door of the UCSB Alpha Phi sorority house for 2 minutes. Thank goodness they didn't answer the door.
