Expansion
 

I attend a 2 year college. this college was established in 1998. There are no greek orginizations within oir school. The SGA as well as the Office of Student Development would be interesed in bringing greek orginizations to our campu. Does anyone have any recommendations.

I think it's great that they are interested in bringing GLO's to your school since it seems like there are very few administrations interested in bringing GLO's to campuses these days.

However, I'm not sure how effective it would be, since your only a 2 year college. I think most Nationals usually try to look for four year universities because from a financial standpoint they'll have members paying dues for four years. But don't take this a sign that it couldn't happen.

You'll be helped if your campus isn't entirely commuter.

As far as going about getting a GLO to start, I think you'd be best served by getting together a group of people interested in perhaps starting a GLO. If you get together 2 groups - one sorority and one fraternity I think that might increase interest, plus it would quicken the expansion as other GLO's saw the (hopefully) success on your campus. After you have enough people do some research on different GLO's and try to find out as much as possible about your top choices. Greekchat is a good resource, and people here can point you to other resources. After you've made your decisions petition the GLO of your choice for a colony. This stage is where your status as a 2 year institution hurts, b/c the research will probably take awhile to complete and so will the colony stage, at which point you and your originators will have graduated.

Another option, is to start a local GLO, with the goal of affiliating with a national. To quicken the transition, discover the requirements for chapter status as a colony and set up your local in the image of that. I think all Nationals require alumni advisors, so if you have graduated you could fill in that position until your group is able to find an alumni locally from the National.

Basically I think it's goign to have to be a student movement. I wish you luck and I hope that there is enough interest to build a strong chapter.

I agree with Betarulzs, but also , depending on what kind of organizations, you are looking for, there are locals that are expanding, and other councils such as the Multicultural Councils and other Greek locals . Many locals cater to those that are in two yr universities. so it's just a process of looking around and doing some research as to who does what and how they function. I don't know about other GLOs, but Delta Phi Epsilon only charters at 4 year universities. But Beta gives you good advice...check out locals and other orgs to see their policies.
