EI at American University

EI is Epsilon Iota, which can perhaps be best described as a local, unrecognized, and expressly disapproved fraternity with members at American University. They have been on the local news and national website for their shenanigans.

I was in grad school for a year at American before I dropped out. I remember being like why the hell are these kids wearing EI shirts? Do they like the song that much? Then I found out they were a former chapter of Alpha Tau Omega. They weren't really respected by the students I knew.

My husband, who knows nothing about Greek life, was talking about this the other day. His only comment was, "Do you know how guys talk to one another? Don't look at any texts between guy friends. You'd be disgusted." I said, maybe so, but fraternities and sororities live under a microscope and are held up to different standards as groups than are individuals.

What a bunch of tools these guys are. They ought to change the letters of their "fraternity" to Delta Beta for Douchebags.

Yup. Epsilon Iota chapter.

National Alpha Tau Omega's response is exactly what I'd expect, and I'm not really sure how they could react better (Basically, they lost their charter in 2001 over alcohol issues, and these students have no relation to our fraternity")

My question is what more can the University do? Maybe more than if they were a Public University, but not *that* much more, I think.

I'm afraid this would be the response at more schools if the "eliminate fraternities and sororities as outmoded and useless" crowd got its way.

There will be scumbags no matter where you go. Some gather in more formal organizations. We cannot allow them to co-opt the concepts of fraternity, excellence, loyalty, academic excellence, and leadership that most greek organizations promote.

How about Delta Alpha.....for DumbA$$e$. This really is sad when fraternity guys have to act like a bunch of middle schoolers.

I went to American for my freshman year (before transferring) and for the most part, it was more of the freshmen (especially girls) who were so in love with EI compared to the upperclassmen. I also did hear stories that went on at the parties too. I had a few people on my floor who rushed EI as well who were for the most part nice guys too!

I read the emails and never been so disgusted in my life. It was also annoying because I feel like the university couldn't do much since they weren't a real club but instead tell freshman especially that they should not take the shuttles to EI parties.
