Chapter Houses
I was browsing through several AlphaGam chapter pages and came across some nice houses!!
I wasn't fortunate enough to attend a school with sorority houses- but we're raising money for them. There was a meeting of Sorority International presidents at our school (I got to meet Suzanne Spicer) concerning housing. Apparently it's an all or nothing thing- one sorority can't build a house until all the groups can. Our chapter's housing money is secure but I've heard that some other groups have somehow spent their housing money on other crap. go figure! Gee, some of these houses are to die for! like: http://www.msstate.edu/org/agd/ nice :) |
At least you're allowed to get a house - here in Pennsylvania, it's against the law unless you were "grandfathered" in.
Best of luck in your quest to get a house. Hopefully the rest of the sororities will shape up and start saving that $$$! "Peachy!" |
What is "grandfathered in" mean?

Before there was any rules or laws against it

We have two chapter houses actually, they are right next door to each other. i think we are the only chapter like that but we love both of them. It is really interesting subject for rush needless to say cause none of the other sororities have two houses here. But every chapter here has a house, except Sigma Kappa is losing theirs cause they rent it and their landlord doesn't want them there anymore.

I love the Miss. State AGD house :)
But here is my fave AGD house of all... and yes I am bias. Alpha Beta House Then two of my other faves on campus Chi Omega- Eta Chapter Sigma Kappa - Alpha Mu Chapter Beta Theta Pi - Lambda Chapter Delta Sigma Phi- Alpha Theta (actually Phi Delts house) Lambda Chi Alpha -Sigma Zeta Chapter (actually FIJI's house) |
At West Georgia, NPC sororities are in 1 dorm - AGD,Chi O and Alpha Xi on one side and KD,Phi and DDD on the other side. We've had the sorority dorm since around 1972.
Every year, there is a dicussion about wanting to move off into a house or get a whole apt. building. Unfortunately, I think if 1 moves, everyone has to. Last spring, the college adopted a policy that each sorority has to be financially resp. for 25 (?) beds. They announced the reg. Spring Qtr, after several people had signed apt. complexes. To make it more difficult, freshman girls can not move onto the sorority dorm. (I don't know if there is a rule that freshmen guys can't live in off-campus fraternity houses.) It can be a financial strain if a sorority doesn't have 25 sisters who can/will move on the hall. I think that a sorority has the option of letting non-Greeks live on their hall. A house can be a wonderful thing, but you also have the liability pressures that a dorm room doesn't. :p |
