Graduation is coming!

I've been reflecting upon my upcoming graduation, and want to mark the changes that graduation will bring in some way as a Beta. Of course, we don't become alumna and I love that.... but there are going changes that are inevitable for me as a sister due to the huge shift from full time college student to working woman

I'm trying to think of ideas that seem to suit the occasion, and am running on empty except for my plans to pass on the stitched letter apparel that I own down to my grandlittles before commencement.

Any ideas?

Yes--continue to set a good example of what it means to be a Beta Sigma Phi. Show them through example that sisterhood extends beyond college and for the rest of your life. Show them that it is okay to have wonderful things going on in your life yet still be involved. That it is okay for your level of involvement to shift to more or less during different seasons in your life. Bottom line though, show them through example the benefits of staying involved!

Congratulations!

Will you be staying in the area?

Yes, at least for the next year. I was elected City Council Recording Secretary for the 2014-15 sorority year, so I'm going to try to find a job here in this area....although I'm extremely nervous about anything turning up. *Prays*

Yesterday, at City Council Founder's Day luncheon, I was installed as City Council Recording Secretary. It was a very proud (and somewhat teary) moment...and sitting up at the head table with my fellow incoming board members and the outgoing members was a major change since I'd always sat next to my chapter sisters at every event and social where we'd talk and laugh. Sitting elsewhere and accepting new responsibilities seems to be fitting, with graduation looming.

Forgive me if I don't understand, but why would you give away your letter shirts? Active membership in Beta Sigma Phi doesn't end with college graduation. Aren't there very few chapters on campuses? This makes no sense.

I hear people say they will away (as in giving away) their letter shirts to others because they have so many, and also because they feel that they need to separate from the "image" of a collegiate member and become and alumnus/a. You have already passed the "typical" college age and felt okay wearing your shirts before, so what will change with college graduation?

Unlike in NPC sororities, BSF has no status change, because membership is not contingent on matriculation, and you don't really have "alumnae" in the same sense.

Good points, ree. I was thinking that it would be of benefit to BSP for MCP to continue wearing her letter items as it may pique non-members' interest in the organization.

A chapter tradition that was voted on. Some of the other founding sisters are doing the same and passing some of theirs to the new sisters that will come over the next year. I'm keeping one sweatshirt (a pink zip up with embroidery and pink hibiscus flower print that is my favorite.) and ordering one more and a shirt from Jenna Benna....so I'll still have a nice amount.

I do agree about the publicity aspect, however.

If you just decided it 2.5 seconds ago, it's not a tradition, it's a policy. Traditions are those things that come about naturally and stay around through the years because they're shown to be positive...not random rules that are arbitrarily legislated.

I correct myself and clarify that it's a policy of our chapter.

I'm planning on posting a few pictures from my Senior Portrait shoot that a beloved friend offered to do as a graduation present. This one touches my heart in more ways than one, and I hope that it makes you smile too.

Here are a few of the others. I'm extremely happy with how they turned out.

Congratulations! You worked HARD for that diploma and accomplished a lot in your time at UNR. You have much to be proud of; good luck to you in the future - I have a feeling we'll be hearing from you :-)
