Locals with liability insurance

On campuses with local organizations, who insures the locals? Does the campus provide an option for the chapter to buy insurance through them, do the chapters have to go out and find a company to insure them? Any info is appreciated, including companies who insure locals.

At my alma mater, the locals had to fend for themselves -- no insurance provided by the university.

So how did they go about getting insurance?

They were forced to get their own. It's been several years since I've spoken to anyone in one of the locals, but IIRC, they got insurance similar to the way a mom-and-pop company would -- didn't have all the bells and whistles, but was enough to meet university requirements.

In looking at our Greek website, it looks like most of the locals are either dormant or in expansion stages, so insurance costs may be spread out now.
