Sigma Chi Locals
Ok, Im gonna try to start new threads to help me document as many groups as I can of locals that became chapters of the various fraternities. Any help would be most appreciative.
This one if for Sigma Chi locals. |
Clarification, please. Do you mean locals that were founded specifically as a local org, and then joined Sigma Chi later? Or, do you mean locals that were founded specifically to join Sigma Chi?

Either if the group developed it's own insignia I guess.
I'm not referring to colonies, but local groups like a Pi eta chi as an example becomes the delta delta chapter of XYZ fraternity...... I have some information and am always looking to add to my database of orgs, and their insignia if they developed any. Thanks. |
At Rensselaer, Sigma Chi existed as a local fraternity known as Phi Epsilon Phi.

Murray State local Delta Alpha Fraternity - Epsilon Tau Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity
Delta Alpha Fraternity was founded by five men on February 3, 1948, at Murray State. It was the first fraternity in the Kentucky state college system. Two of the Delta Alpha founders were members of Sigma Chi. One of those, Raymond J. "Buddy" Hewitt, Vanderbilt '49, was instrumental in encouraging the group to petition Sigma Chi rather than accept affiliation offers from other fraternities. In the spring of 1958, President Woods instructed the men of Delta Alpha to seek affiliation with a recognized fraternity. After considering several "old line" fraternities, the group voted unanimously in April of 1958 to petition Sigma Chi for a charter. I don't know know of any other information or insignia regarding Delta Alpha. |
I started Beta Chi in 1965 with the purpose of affiliation with a major national.
We were chosen by and we elected Lambda Chi Alpha to colonize in 1966 and chartered in 1969' School is Pittsburg State Un., Kansas. While we were a local for only nine months, I had designed the Pin, Pledge button, Coat of Arms, and Banner. We wore our Pins proudly amd shirts with C of A on them!! |
