Recruitment Counselor Interview Questions & Answers
Hi all! I am applying to become an RC and I know that the second step of this process is an interview. I am worried about the questions because I have no idea how to reply to certain scenarios. Please help with the following questions or post about general advice for me!
1. How would you respond if a pnm has been cut from a majority of the chapters? 2. What would you say to a girl that wants to suicide on chapter? 3. What would you do if a girl started crying because she did not get asked back to a particular chapter? +any other questions that may be asked during the interviews Please don't reply with "you should come up with the answers on your own", I understand that it should be my own answer, I would just like to hear what others have to say about these questions Thank you for all your help! |
Every single one of these situations has taken place, in real time, in different recruitment stories posted here on GC. If you look around the recruitment stories forum, you will see what GCers actually DID say to PNM's who got cut/wanted to suicide/cried/whatever.

This is kind of bugging me.
You SHOULD come up with the answers on your own because when the time comes that you will need to support one of your PNMs it won't really matter what anyone here would say. I went through recruitment last year and my Recruitment Counselor was awesome! She was supportive but funny and at the same time, really gave me a big push at a time that I really needed it. Most of all she was genuine and it was really her thoughts and answers and advice that she was giving me. I think you are better off thinking through these things all on your own because no one here will be able to help you when a girl is crying her eyes out. |

I'm not so quick to be angry, because if she were already an RC, and came here asking "what should i say if a PNM gets cut?" we'd give her tons of advice. So really, researching a question and trying to come up with the very best way to handle a situation isn't a problem, in my opinion, I just don't have a desire to spoon feed her info that has already been hashed to death.

For question #2, you would explain what happens if the PNM ISP's. If she does, she might get a bid to that chapter, or she might not. If she lists more than one chapter, she risks getting a bid to her second/third choice and being bound to them for a year - but she might find that, while pledging her second or third choice, it really is her home. One question I was asked during rho chi training was a role-playing situation where a "PNM" came to me as her PX, "knew" she wanted to be my sister, and had a strong suspicion I was an AEPhi, so she wanted to drop all other chapters except AEPhi. I gave the correct answer: "Well, you have a 1 in 17 chance of being right about my being an AEPhi. In any case, I am only one sister, and I'm temporarily disaffiliated from my chapter and have no say in my chapter's membership selection. Talk to the affiliated sisters, and think about whether you fit well with them." |
