UT sophomore

As quite a few of you know, I will be transferring to UT as a sophomore. I already know that this puts me at a disadvantage. However, because of my major and the classes I will be taking, I'm going to end up being a 5th year senior, so I will still have 4 years of being in my sorority. Will this help at all? Should I mention it during open house round?

Another thing is, I know many SEC & competitive schools have a preview weekend, but it doesn't seem like UT does. Am I just missing something? Is there anything relatively similar that UT has?

I think UT's preview weekend was last weekend....

From the UT website: Panhellenic Preview will be held during the day on March 8, 2014 at Sorority Village and the UT Visitors Center. Students can check in at Sorority Village between 11 AM - 11:30 AM and the Parent Program will begin on campus at 1 PM.

I am sure there are other women in your same boat. I would contact Panhellenic and see if they have any tips for sophomores. I would just make sure your grades are awesome and you know some members from each organization. And of course have a rec for every house.

Sorry, I meant UT as in University of Texas! I always forget that there is another UT :( sorry for the confusion

Absolutely you should mention you'll be at college as a 5th year. It's very easy to bring that up because 99% of the women you will meet at the chapters will say after brief introductions, "So, delaryn13, what year are you and where's your hometown?" It's super simple for you to respond with, "I'm a sophomore, but my _____ Major will have me in college for 5 years, so I've got 4 years to go before I graduate!"

UT also has a sophomore quota: "The UT Austin Panhellenic Community has a sophomore quota, which is a process that allows for an increased placement of sophomores in all chapters during formal recruitment. Over 159 sophomores received a bid to membership in 2012." This won't guarantee you will have a bid, but you will not be as disadvantaged due to your class status.

I'm not sure about a preview weekend, but your best bet is to call UT's Panhellenic office directly and ask them. According to their website, there will be a Greek Life presentation at summer orientation, but that isn't the same thing.

Keep your questions coming!

Get a letter of rec. Texas is like another world when it comes to sorority recruitment and I don't know of any schools that don't strongly encourage them for members going through recruitment. Then if you have it and don't end up really needing it, you're covered. You don't want to be on the other end of that though.

Ukdzccd- I am in the process of getting recs for each chapter. I know at UT recs are necessary
