UCF KD Declared Brain Dead
http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/...lorida-student
Her brother posted on her tribute page today that she has been pronounced dead: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/br...cb6a8d597d5e82 Alafaya runs alongside campus with student bars/pubs scattered in various places near the street. The speed limit is 45 mph, but those of us who went to UCF know that's merely a suggestion. It's a dangerous road. I can't even begin to count the number of times my friends or me have had a collision on that road. You are one of the few if you've graduated UCF without at least getting bumped on that road. It was like this when I graduated many (gulp) years ago. I can't imagine the huge increase in UCF attendance has made Alafaya any safer. |
Very sad. My condolences to her family and Kappa Delta.

It's incredibly sad. I hope the university will build a pedestrian bridge and students and people in general will be more aware when crossing the street. It's a horrible, horrible loss and so many lives will never be the same.
Something similar happened a few years ago at UF when a law student was running with earbuds and attempted to cross when the light was against her. In Brooke's case, this happened in the early hours on a Sunday morning (around 2:30 am) and troopers believe she had been drinking. She apparently stopped in the crosswalk to talk to someone in another car. The driver of the car who struck her had the green light and will not be cited. I cannot even begin to imagine the grief and pain the driver will carry his entire life over this. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/featu...,2193772.story |
What a tragedy. My condolences to her family, friends, and Kappa Delta.
