New House

Hello All:
I am President and founding mother of Zeta Psi Omega. Our philanthropy is Love146 (@ Love146.org) I was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice to help us succeed. We are 2 days away from the end of our first pledge process and it definitely had its flaws but nothing too major. I am looking for any pledging tips, recruitment tips, and any tips to help me better lead my house. We just created a fundraising chair and I would also love ideas with that.

Are you pledging kindergartners or compatriots? You can't be best friends with someone and then suddenly, because you have invited them to join your organization, expect the dynamics of the friendship to change.

Respect is earned. If you do good and inspiring things, lead by example with understanding and kindness you will win respect. Not to say that folks don't have to follow the rules of your org. They should. But rules should be made wisely and expectations should be explained in full, and should be applied to all members fairly.

That being said, you are a brand new organization, and there will be bumps in the road. It is a learning process and you all have a steep learning curve. Give yourself time to work out the kinks and review the process after every pledge class-and ask for their input too. NPC sororities have been around for over 100 years each, and they are constantly reviewing and revising all aspects of their membership, both collegiate and alumnae.

Your demand for respect sounds a lot like you are hazing. People respect those that earn respect. Pledges will show respect for sisters when they treat them with respect and know what they are doing. If you are ugly to the pledges or act like you are clueless, they will treat you like you don't know your head from your... Focus on presenting a united front that is organized and prepared. Respect comes with that. You can't force it.
