just some concerns

Hey guys, I dunno if you remember me, I read everyday, lol- but don't post very often... anyways, I rushed in formal rush this past fall, and things didn't work out. I ended up suiciding and didn't get into the house I wanted... At first I was very sad and dissapointed, and didn't want to rush again, but now that some time has passed I believe I want to do spring rush this semester (1st weekend of feb.)... I was just wondering if anybody had been through a similar situation and had any words of advice? I'm a little nervous going through rush again (even though it's informal) because I did get hurt last time, and I'm scared of the same thing happening again... on the other hand, I still feel like I really want to be part of the greek community, and want to rush... Thanks for reading, I guess I'm just a little nervous about going through it all again... thanks :)

My situation was quasi-similar - I wound up dropping out of formal rush and joining a local sorority a week later via informal rush. (As a local, they couldn't do formal rush.)

I say go for it! A lot of times, sororities release people who would make good sisters, simply because of numbers. Or you may not have met enough people during the parties. Or you may not have made grades, and you've since pulled up your GPA (I don't recall if this applied in your case, I don't think it did, but it's one reason why a good PNM may be released).

Informal rush is a totally different animal from formal rush. It's more laid back (at least at my school it was) ... you're not standing there thinking "OMG, I have half an hour to make a good impression on these women!" Plus you have the advantage of having had a semester to meet sorority women around campus in a non-rush setting (in class, study groups, clubs, dorm, etc).

Relax, and have fun :) (and keep us updated! ;) )

GiantsChic--
Go for it. There are so many random reasons people get dropped, don't take it personally.
In informal rush you have a much more relaxed way to meet the sisters and make a decision. Just be yourself and keep an open mind. Get to know as many of the women as you can and be interested and enthusiastic.
Good luck!

Like everyone else has said...go for it. I went through informal recruitment the fall semester of my sophomore year, visited 3 houses, and didn't get invited back to any, most likely because my GPA was a few tenths of a point below their chapter minimums. I went through again in the spring with my heart set on a house from the beginning. I was still a little under their minimum GPA and got cut from that house and a few others that I was sort of interested in, but stayed in because there were still plenty I liked. I ended up in a house that I hadn't really even considered before I went through spring recruitment and I have never met a more amazing group of women in my life.

Everyone says it, but keep an open mind when you're going through. Just because you heard that XYZs were dorks or that ABCs were all blonde skanks doesn't mean it's true - and even if there is some truth to it, who cares? In 4 years when college is over the reputations are gone and you'll be able to say you've made the best friends you could ever have, and that you are still a part of an amazing national (I assume) organization.
