Question about party attendance
 

Here is a hypothetical situation. How would this be handled at your university?

University has formal recruitment with 10 sororities. There are 3 rounds of parties. Women visit all 10 sororities for round 1, max of 7 for round 2, and max of 3 for preference.

Now, we have Suzy PNM, who is only interested in going to 3 houses because she's sure the others aren't for her, for whatever reason. After Round 1, Suzy has the max if 7 houses left, but one of her top 3 cut her. So she decides she is only going to go to the 2 parties she wants to go to and ditch the other 5. After Round 2, Suzy gets a max of 3 invites, but only 1 is from one of her top 3 houses. Again, Suzy ditches the 2 who aren't in her top 3 and goes only to the one preference party. On bid day, Suzy gets a bid from her top choice.

What are the consequences to Suzy, who didn't follow protocol and only went to houses that she wanted to visit?

At almost all schools following RFM, which is almost all schools, she would be dropped from rush. Hypothetical rushee needs to understand that it's not really a mutual selection process except to the extent that she's allowed to decline the bid she eventually gets.

Moreover, it is wonderful opportunity for Suzy to show maturity. She needs to attend all parties and be gracious and pleasant at each. It's a necessary life skill. Learn now. Then, as DubaiSis noted, at an RFM school, she should be dropped for not following protocol. It is called consequences, another valuable life lesson. Learn now.

Ok, let's say she is dropped from recruitment. Can she then turn around and COB if a space is open in a sorority? And yes, this happened at a school I worked with, and no, she was not dropped. She was allowed to accept her bid and become a member.

COB would be a possibility for a chapter under total. It sounds as if the Greek Life office (and the chapter recruitment advisors) are not as up to speed as it should be. Are a majority of the 10 chapters local? I am thinking this is a school in the Northeast.

You say she got the bid she wanted so there is no consequence. Not sure what you are asking....

She did Titchou, but she set a precedent that it was ok to do this, and several women followed her lead. Should the university's Panhellenic put in place a rule to prohibit this? It's not really a mutual selection if the PNM isn't fully participating.

Pink, no, not all locals and not in the NE.

I think that if your panhellenic is not following the same thing that most other schools do, y'all should implement that. To make it clear that it is NOT okay to do what Suzy PNM did. At my school, like most, you HAVE to go to every party you are invited to (whether you want to or not, barring special circumstances where the absence is excused) or you are automatically released from recruitment. I thought that's one of the main why RFM was put in place, so that WRCs don't just have everyone ditch them because of tent talk, because they don't feel like going. Another note, if you are excused from a party (getting sick, cheer practice, etc) that does not mean you will be automatically invited to the party next round. Any or all of those houses could invite you back, but they could also drop you.

If she is dropped, she is eligible for COB.
If she pledges and then resigns before initiation, she has to wait for the next formal recruitment.

Is the Greek advisor NPC?

Meaning are they a member of an NPC org? No.

That other NPC groups did not voice concerns suggests that the entire CPC could use a bit of education (hence my query on the composition of the CPC.). If the area alumnae association is not very strong, then it might be appropriate for those NPC groups who do "get" it, to have their traveling consultants meet with the GA advisor when there to help educate. The GA not being Greek herself/himself doesn't help matters. This is a bad precedent, and the next failure on protocol might be uglier.
