How will/did you celebrate your graduation from college?
As my grad date approaches (May 29th I think!) ... I am getting set to take a 30-day rail trip across North America & I AM SOOOO EXCITIED ALREADY!!! Just wondering what/how others celebrated or plan to celebrate ... I'd love to hear about it!

It's still a year away, but I already know...
I'm getting LASIK surgery so I never have to wear contacts or glasses again! I will wake up the morning and be able to SEE! YAY! Ok, I know that's nowhere near as exciting as a rail trip, but I'm easy to please :) And for someone who has worn glasses/contacts since the 1st grade, it's pretty damn thrilling :) Have fun! |
I graded a week (May 24) before my birthday (June 1). Every year I throw a huge pool party for my b-day so I thought I would combine the two last year since I had already set the party date for May 26th. Having all my friends and sisters around to celebrate my graduation from UBC was a very memorable experience.
My brother graduated from highschool 2 weeks after I graduated from UBC so our parents through a huge BBQ for the both of us, so our family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins...) and old family friends could celebrate our achievements. |
As soon as I get my diploma, I'm gonna go be seated, wait for the cermony to be over, them I'm going to Sutherland Chevrolet in Nicholasville and ordering a 2004 Black, extended cab, long bed, 4x4, 3/4 ton Duramax Diesel Chevy truck. Complete with locking rear differential, 4.10 gears, 6 speed standard tranny, heavy duty towing package, power locks and windows, all the interior trim, and last but not least...........leather seats. Arr arr arr.......... That is if i sign fulltime with the company I have been doing my internship at but I dont think that will be a problem. At least I really hope not.
Then im gonna get drunk. |
The night of graduation(we graduate in the morning), AOTT had a dinner party/dance for all the graduating seniors and there families. It was nice because from 6-8, it was just the seniors and there families for a nice dinner and then at 8, all the rest of our sisters and friends came and we had a DJ and beer, and just had a great time. But you could send Grandparents home around 8:30 and still get to party with your sisters!
For my present, my mom, dad, brother and I went to London and Edinborogh for a week, which was so nice. And in less than 3 years(I start June 17th), I will have my GRAD SCHOOL graduation, so maybe I should start planning another celebration! |
Great Graduation Song
I've only heard it, but it's a hilarious song when you hear it live (and I just got a Phish show with it on it)
"Alumni Blues." I suggest you DL it and I think it only exists live and I'd guess that the "White Tape" is the best source for it. |
We have a pub crawl the night before graduation, so the entire senior class does the pub crawl. Boyfriend at the time was not pleased because he had to work, so he came down while I was out, and when I got home, he was sleeping. I, on the other hand, was ripped, and proceeded to jump on the bed and talk obnoxiously loud and such, like any good drunken college senior should.
Needless to say, on the day of graduation, there are many hung over seniors graduating :) |
After I graduated...
I took a week-long trip to Ixtapa and then moved to Milwaukee to start my very first "real" job as a reporter. :)

I have NO IDEA! My mom wants to take a vacation the week after graduation. She wants to go to Paris, and I would love to, but I wasn't a good flyer even before 9/11.
My boyfriend's parents are taking him on a cruise, and I think I might be invited, but that'll be an odd situation with getting a room. His parents wouldn't mind if we shared a room, but there is no way in hell my mom would OK that. And honestly, I don't know how comfortable I would be with it either. So, we'll have to see how that unfolds. The biggest celebration will be having a good job this summer - I refuse to work retail with a college degree. I want to find a job with a law firm or a computer consultant. :) |
Goodness.
Went through graduation - posed for pics, went to lunch with my parents and my boyfriend (who also graduated that day) and his parents. Drove that night to Florida with my bf to his parents beach house and spent the night laying by the ocean and .... :D Nothing major, but still a special memory. |
the countdown to T-day begins ...
Woo hoo!! I'm SOOO excited ... I decided that I wanted to start my train trip near the middle of the US & work east, south, west & then north towards home, respectively ... I just finished booking a plane ticket to Indianapolis, where I will start my adventure on April 25th!!! I figured that a visit to the AGD HQ there would be a great way to start the journey :) ...
Less than 3 months & counting till T-Day (trip day) ... actual convocation day is just under 4 months away - date TBA. Just wanted to share my news ... I can't wait :) - Jen AGD - DZ '97 |
I loved those days! First, I threw a giant party for all of my friends. It was amazing - even some of my prof's showed up to throw some back!
Then, my boyfriend and I flew to Malaysia and spent nearly 2 months island hopping and enjoying great food and culture until we flew back and started our jobs. It was a really great time in my life, for sure. :D Whatever you do, I think it's important to do something memorable that involves friends (because it gets really difficult to keep in touch) and also something good for your soul. Graduating from college is no small feat! |

But even if I can't go to a bar, I think I'll be celebrating privately with some friends ;) |
Hopefully I will get a car for graduation since I am transportationless. Just getting into graduate school for the spring semester will be enough for me.
