Minority Rushing at Bama?

I will most likely be attending UA in the fall and I'm 100% dead set on rushing. However I'm super nervous about being a minority. I'm 100% Brazilian, and I'm part black, white and asian. After the recent events that happened this fall, I'm starting to get a little discouraged. I'm also going to be an OOS student and the first person in my family to be involved with Greek Life. ( My whole family, minus my step dad and my aunt, are from Brazil and didn't even know Greek Life was a thing) I've already started to get recs from people but I'm still nervous that being a minority will disadvantage me.

Do you think there is any hope?

That is the 20 million dollar question. I don't know if anyone has a good feel for if the hubbub of the last year will translate to an actual change in welcoming women of color.

My personal opinion is that some/many but not all chapters will want to pledge one or maybe 2 minority members. If I'm right, you will have a chance. But this is Alabama. Have your recs in order, make sure your resume is outstanding (time to add some service hours if you are a little thin there), and have a wide open attitude about your options. While the days of you not having a chance MIGHT be past, they are still not going to take a girl who doesn't have outstanding credentials.

And all that being said, that is simply my opinion and I have zero affiliation with Bama.

I would also edit your original post to remove all identifying information. Or delete it all together.

Members of your school definitely read these boards and you will be readily identifiable.

Yes!
Now more than ever, you and every girl has a chance. Chapters were waiting for years for the way to be cleared, and now it is.
Your biggest handicap is that you are coming from a foreign country, and sororities that require alumnae recommendations will have hard time finding alumnae who know you or your family, or know someone who knows you, to write them.
So the fact that you are working on that is a big plus.

Also, grades: 3.0 is pretty much the absolute floor for pledging any sorority. Girls who pledge with 3.0 or below generally have some other something - personal connections, a unique talent or accomplishment, etc.

So make sure your grades are the very best they can be.

Best of luck and Roll Tide!

Just of interest . . . the Spring 2014 Panhellenic Preview Day brochure seems to be very inclusive of minorities:
