I don't understand Continuous Open Bidding at all?
Lol, help?
|
I am assuming you are at Purdue.
According to their website: "Continuous recruitment events take place in the fall and spring semesters. Continuous recruitment is a way for potential new members and sorority members to get to know each other in an informal environment. Not all sororities participate in continuous recruitment. The Panhellenic Association does not require registration for continuous recruitment." To clarify (and an active member at Purdue is welcome to correct me): You do not register with Panhellenic. You can go to only one chapter's events, or visit several. If you receive a bid the chapter will notify you. As far as whether or not to take the first bid offered - if you can see yourself as a member of the first group, take the bid and don't look back. You could refuse their bid only to not get any more. If you feel a greater connection with a different sorority AND can't see yourself as a sister of the first group, you may wish to wait. Just remember the bird in the hand adage . . . I would suggest going to Meet the Greeks and letting sororities know you are interested (Again, from the website) " Get to know all of Purdue's fraternities and sororities at Meet the Greeks! Meet the Greeks is a tabling event at the beginning of each semester where students can meet representatives from all fraternities and sororities in a casual setting. Spring Meet the Greeks is taking place in the PMU Ballroom on Wednesday, January 15, 12-5pm. " |
If they are having a Meet the Greeks event - this means there are enough women interested for there to be competition for groups. Choosing only one would be shooting yourself in the foot, UNLESS you are an in-house legacy of an active or recently active member and/or know all the sisters. Definitely go to events for all the groups. Some groups will have invite-only events as the process goes on.

My daughter is at Purdue currently. There are a few things that you need to realize. While there is a Meet the Greeks event, it is for both frats and sororities. Only 3-4 housed sororities may be there. It all depends on retention from the fall pledge classes. Every housed sorority made quota so the numbers could be very slim that are being filled with COB. If a house only has a few slots to fill, they often pick up friends of current sisters. It may not be unusual for there to be 50-100 girls at an event with only 3-5 bids to be given.
The houses may have open events or they may look at the list of names registered for COB and invite girls to events or coffee dates based on fall formal recruitment rankings. Good luck! (My daughter is sitting here dictating this to me so I do know what I write!) |
