I have to say I'm a little disappointed with some of the nominations. Plus, I never expected Her to just take over and be nominated in almost every category.

Thoughts? Predictions?

Xidelt 01-16-2014 09:12 PM

Tom Hanks should be on that list. *shakes head*

ZetaPhi708 01-16-2014 11:32 PM

Thanks for posting the nominees.

Favorite nomination ( and I never thought in my years of being an Oscar pundit, I would say this ) Academy Award nominee for Best Makeup/Hairstyling: JACKASS PRESENTS: BAD GRANDPA.

But the work was good in that film.

maconmagnolia 01-16-2014 11:35 PM

Leonardo DiCaprio deserves best actor. He still hasn't gotten an Oscar! :(

BraveMaroon 01-17-2014 01:44 PM

I'm pulling for Robert Lopez to win so that he can earn his EGOT!

And because I think he's brilliant to boot.

Also, good to know that in marketing the new 21 Jump Street sequel, 22 Jump Street, the ads can now say “starring 2-time Academy Award nominee, Jonah Hill.”

I haven’t seen enough of the movies to make an informed judgment on whether the all the nominees are worthy, and who will win. I did see 12 Years a Slave, and thought Chiwetel Ejiofor was amazing and definitely deserved to win Best Actor, but then at the Golden Globes he lost to Matthew McConaughey (unfortunately, I did not get out to Dallas Buyers Club), so I really have no idea who it will end up going to.

The other nominated films I’ve seen are American Hustle and Nebraska, plus we’re planning to see Her sometime this weekend. I also saw Inside Llewyn Davis, which ended up not getting much love from the Academy.

ZetaPhi708 01-20-2014 03:40 PM

Over the weekend, we had the SAG Awards and last night the Producers Guild Awards, which are usually strong indicators leading up to the OSCARS.

SAG results:
LEAD ACTOR, Matthew McConaughy, Dallas Buyers Club
LEAD ACTRESS, Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine
SUPPORTING ACTRESS, Lupita Nyong'o, 12 Years a Slave
SUPPORTING ACTOR, Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club
Best Cast ( equiv. of Best Picture ), American Hustle

PGA:
A TIE!!!

12 YEARS A SLAVE & GRAVITY

ChioLu 01-20-2014 07:27 PM

If Matthew McConaghey wins the Academy Award, that will mean a Delta Tau Delta Oscar winner.
Any other GLO's represented in the nominees?
