140 years ago, three young girls (ages 14-16), Anna Boyd, Eva Webb, and Mary Comfort, were snowed in at the Lewis School for Girls in Oxford, Mississippi. They couldn't make it home for the holidays, but they found comfort in spending the time together. It was during this time that they decided to form the Delta Gamma Club - a club of friendship, scholarship, and mutual helpfulness. The selected the our motto, which led to the the letters Delta Gamma; and they penned our first rituals.

So Merry Christmas everyone -- especially to my DG sisters near and far! |

Isn't it interesting how many sororities began around holidays?
Tri Delta at Thanksgiving. DG at Christmas. AOII at New Years. Must be something about that holiday feeling that spurs the fraternal spirit. Happy founding day. |

Happy Founders day to the sisters of Delta Gamma!

Happy Founders Day, DGs everywhere! I am Greek because of a wonderful DG who showed me what it meant to be in a sorority. You guys will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Merry Christmas and happy thoughts of Anna, Eva and Mary at this special time of the year! They eventually chose the anchor as their symbol "for they hoped for great things." I think that has happened far more than they ever imagined.
AZTheta, I didn't know that about you! A special Christmas hug to you! |
