What is a legacy?

I have an interesting question. If, among your respective GLO, you are not going to answer such questions, please don't reply. I know that if you're an AXO or KAO or AKA, your daughter is considered a legacy. Does it go the other way around? If I am an AXO, does it mean that my mommy is an AXO legacy? Does it work like that? I'm not asking about preference in rush or anything.

I'm not sure if your exact question was answered in this thread, but you might want to check out:

I don't think so! But I could be wrong. The only time I've heard of an adult initiating into a chapter is like if a local becomes a national.
Like we recently added a new chapter to Chi Omega. When they initiated the girls they invited their advisors and some alum to become newly initiated members of Chi Omega as well.
Other than that, I don't think your mother would be a legacy.
Someone correct me if I'm dead wrong (weirder things have happened) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

It depends on the organization. I suggest ou check your National's Consitiution & Bylaws.

One of our consultants from HQ said when he went to college his brother was a Lambda Chi, so he rushed them, was bid, and joined. He had been friends with them for a while, since the school was near his home. Anyway, shortly after he joined, they decided to ask his dad to become an honor initiate. He ended up initating in the same class as his dad. He didn't really go into details about why they asked him to join, but I assume he did a lot for/with the fraternity. Anyway, I'd say this is the closest thing to a parent being a legacy.

Some friends of mine have had their mother be initiated into their sorority - actually from a couple of different groups; not sure why even, just that they were. I don't know about legacy status for that, just that the moms are actually now initiated sisters.

For my organization, legacy means that your mother or grandmother is an ACTIVE member of the organization. It does not work the other way around.

I believe that a legacy is only considered a daughter (biological or step), grandaughter, or sister of a member...but I don't know if that applies to every organization.
