Sorority help!

Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and the Greek life in general but I'm very interested in it. I had a few questions and was hoping someone could help!

How will you know which sorority is "the one" (Also do each sorority stand for a specific thing?)

Is it possible for a Sophomore to join a sorority?

and

Do all sorority's have certain requirements such as a min. GPA etc... (if all are different could you give an example or average if possible)

I don't really know too much about sororities just a lot of the great things that come from them and I would really love to be apart of a group of amazing individuals that contribute so much.

So basically I'm trying to learn as much about them as possible before I begin my Sophomore year at the school WVU and begin my attempt to get recruited. (I'm currently a Freshmen at a small campus school with no Greek life)

Any information will help! Thank you :)

You might try contacting the Greek Life adviser at WVU.

Start reading through a bunch of the threads here. To answer your 2 questions, yes and yes. But there's a lot more to it than that. Do several hours worth of reading before starting to ask a bunch more questions - most of your questions will have already been answered multiple times here already.

Then, once you have a clearer picture about what it's all about, come back and ask more specific questions.

For the love of all that's holy discontinue use of the phrase "get recruited." It's a sorority, not a sports team/arm of the military/cult. Recruitment may be the official term, but many people dislike it.

Haha! Alright sorry about that! What do most refer to it as?

Thank you! I realize I should have researched it more thoroughly before I began asking questions like that and since I've posted this I have spent the past few hours looking up my questions and quickly finding the answers.

Participate in recruitment. Go out for recruitment. You are participating in a process not sitting around waiting for someone to come to you.

And the appropriate person to ask all these questions of is the Greek Adviser at the college you will attend. He/she can give you answers specific to the campus.

How do you know which sorority is "the one?" It may not be one of the ones you are dazzled by. It will be the one where you feel comfortable and at home. The women will remind you of friends that you already have. You will feel that you can hang out with them in your PJs and fuzzy slippers watching goofy movies. You will feel that if you are ever in trouble, they will have your back. When you walk into their chapter house, you will feel that they are genuinely glad to see you again. They will greet you by name and introduce you to their friends.

It's a process and you have to trust that the sororities will probably know if you are a good fit for them better than you will know.

You may not know a sorority is "the one" during recruitment. Maybe you have several favorites, maybe you feel lukewarm about all of them. Some women don't know it's "the one" until they take a chance on a sisterhood and discover how much it really means months later.
