Charlotte, North Carolina Area Sorors and SFs

I am in the process of relocatiing to Charlotte this upcoming summer and I will be visiting the Charlotte area this April for a job fair and to check out Charlotte in more detail. I will be there for the Charlotte Mecklenberg County Schools Job Fair.

If there are any Charlotte area sorors, SFs, etc. in the area please hit me up via PM or IM. My IM info is in my profile.

Thanks already to TickledPink and AKAtude for their help.:)

***UPDATED***

I really want to know about sides of town that are best to live in but on a teacher's salary. :p

You can also reply on this thread. Thanks to Soror Imperial for hitting me up. In one weekend I will be able to add 3 more GCers to my I MET U LIST:cool: . Soror Imperial, maybe we can trade notes on apartment information and schools as well.

Helpful Info:
1. Apartment Complexes
2. Churches
3. Entertainment
4. Interaction of Blacks
5. Good Hotels to stay in

**I had to edit***

I researched a bit for you. If you type in Apartment Guide in your web browser's search engine, it'll allow you to choose Charlotte as your area and type in all of the amenities/ price range that your looking for. It also gives the option to send a guide (5.00). Anyway, once you click on the apartments, many of them have an 888 number.

The South side is really nice, but can be very expensive. The Southeast side (going towards the Matthews area) can also be very nice and more affordable than South Charlotte.

Hope this helps, and don't forget to ask them about your Charlotte-Meck discount. ;)

Seeing as how Charlotte is kinda my second home, I am gonna second Tickledpink... Matthews is the bomb. It is a nice little suburb with a sort of bigger city feel (if that makes any sense at all, lol.) There is only one complaint I have about Charlotte (I really love it), and that is Independence Blvd.

My favorite spot in Matthews is that little center where there is a Sams Club, Media Play and lots of restaurants all in one spot (can't remember what it's called). What more could you ask for? Only thing is they used to have this bomb little emporium with designer fragrances and hair care products for next to nothing. Last time I went, it wasn't there anymore. :(

Tickledpink, do you know what that little center is called?

and I know how MUCH you love Media Play. Thanks for the tips guys, I am looking @ the South and Southeast side.

One question, how does race break down in these areas?

Charlotte's Chamber of Commerce

As I surf, I realized I needed to check out more demographic information about Charlotte so I went to the Chamber of Commerce.

I don't know the name either, but I know what you're talking about!!! :D Before that emporuim left, they had a HUGE going out of business sale. That area's not too far from Matthews 10 (the $1.50 movies ya'll!!!).

Did you get a chance to go to the place further down the road (much further) "Love Jones"? It closed, but I hear it had a nice, kinda "jazzy" atmosphere.

You're right, Independence at 5 pm is no joke!

Hey, I got my Media Play card in the mail, too. :) :D

That info alone is WONDERFUL. I am going to miss my 50 cents movies here but that makes up for it a little bit. :D

I remember spending summers in Charlotte w/ my cousins....Discovery Place...Paramounts Carowinds....memories.

CT4, you have nothing to worry about. The QC has ALL you need and more. Since Food Lion Stores, Inc. was founded in North Carolina (my smalltown Salisbury to be exact), there are probably more Food Lions in North Kackalack than anywhere. Lil ol' Salisbury has like 4-5 Food Lions and Charlotte is waaaay bigger. Charlotte probably has more Food Lions than I can count. There's got to be at least 20. I'm sure there's one on Albemarle Rd. and one on Eastway Drive. Other grocery stores include Harris Teeter a few of those and Winn Dixie. I promise most of these are 24 hours.

Wal-Mart...are you kidding. There's like 4-5 Wal-Marts in Charlotte and at least 2 are SuperCenters. There are also a few Targets. I'm not sure if any of those are Super Targets. Search for specific information from yellowpages.com

Good luck w/ your move and I hope this helps! :) Shout outs to all my Tarheels and Carolina heads out there!!!

BTW-has anyone ever heard of Cheerwine OUTSIDE of North Carolina????

As an ex-Charlottean (1993-94), my favorite was Harris Teeter near South Park, which is a deluxe shopping mall. In a fancy area, for sure, but I'm a gourmet of sorts. Great deli/prepared food section.;)

Food Lion is just OK. Winn-Dixie was slightly better.

Yeah, my family thinks Harris-Teeter is the grocery store for rich folks cause their stuff is high. But they do have a much larger selection than Food Lion and Winn-Dixie.

Yep...

There's a 24 hr Harris Teeter in the University area. I'm not sure about a Super Walmart, but you may want to invest in a Sam's Club Card (buy all that Walmart stuff in bulk at Sam's!!!). I haven't heard of a Super Targe` :D either.

Harris Teeter is kind of expensive, I like Food Lion better (MVP!) or Winn Dixie.

If ya ever get hungry & you're out late at night, there is a 24 hour restaurant here off of South Blvd. The owner is Greek (no, he's really Greek) and has all of these pics of pro wrestlers that have been there.

Thank y'all for allaying my "fears". I just have to make sure that the amenities that I have now will be available when I move.

What?!?! No http://www.plaudersmilies.de/oink.gifly Wigglys??!?!!? Shoot!

I am really looking forward to my move.
Oh another question, I see you all have recommended South and Southeast sections of Charlotte but NOT Southwest? Any reason!??
