Female Preacher Causes Drama at University of Tennessee Chattanooga
Backstory:
http://youtu.be/xjDGVjzTF_Y Then, this happened yesterday: ( same lady ) http://youtu.be/wGFPiP1EH0U Original video: http://youtu.be/lB_YenzE8v4 |
This video makes me angry.
Not because of the "police brutality" because he legitimately wasn't brutalized. But because IT'S NOT HARD TO OBEY THE COPS. Do what the cops say, especially when it's not harming you, and you won't end up under arrest. And the camera man really didn't have to call the woman a bitch multiple times. I'm glad he got called out about it. |
I agree that the police brutality claim was exaggerated, especially when the police warned the student FIVE TIMES. But it appears that this woman was blocking sidewalks and generally causing disturbances, so I don't understand why the university is allowing her to protest in this manner.

They set up a wide circle with traffic cones that no one is allowed to enter to confront her physically.
Here is a updated article regarding her presence and the student's arrest: http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2...-spurs-arrest/ Part of this video has a better view of the wide circle that she is allowed. But I know the campus; that circle is right in the middle, obstructing traffic during class changes. http://youtu.be/02JX_Zmrk0Y As you hear in that video, the UTC Police account of what happened varies from student eye-witness accounts are stating. |
I didn't see any police brutality there. Whether the school's accommodations of the evangelist were a bit over the top are interesting though. It seems they elect to protect the safety and the freedom of the non-student evangelist more than they would protect their own students' rights to confront the evangelist. The school shouldn't be in the business of deciding which group's speech should be more free and the perimeter seems obstructive and over-the-top.

According to the Times Free Press article, she is making 4 more appearances on campus before the end of the semester. According to some of my co-workers who saw her first appearance there 1.5 weeks ago, the cone of protection was smaller in diameter or non-existent and her religious rhetoric was starting to really get tempers boiling, bordering on what some are calling "hate speech".
I have class Monday at 2p.m. I might try to get on campus early, to see for myself if anything further happens. |
She sounds like a wack case and is doing this to promote herself. The Un. can also take the permit away saying it is a disrupting factor on campus.
The school should use some common sense. |
This is about as old as time on college campuses. When I was in school in the 80's there was a woman who preached just about every day it seemed. She was a born again virgin. So she had that going for her. My favorite part was when religion teachers would get in "discussions" with her or other bible beaters about their inaccuracies. You can preach all you want but if you're going to be on the campus of a public school you better be accurate because nobody's going to give you points for intent. And you also better be able to defend things like why it's ok to sell your daughter into slavery and if not why you should otherwise take literally as gospel the other parts of the bible. Good times :)

I see no brutality there. Though I do find it odd that they are protecting her right to speech so much that they are arresting people just for being a certain distance away.

My brother-in-law was telling me that the preacher's radius basically blocked off the main walkway of campus.
ETA: oops. I see that that was already noted above. |
Huge 200-300 student protest on campus today. When I arrived there at about 12 noon, students had drawn a large circle with words such as "love", "peace" in the circle where she usually stands. Some were carrying signs such as "FREE BIKE GUY" etc., etc.,; Another male preacher showed up also. I left at about 1:30pm to head to a 2:00pm class. At the time I left, she had not shown up but by the time class had started, several other students stated she had arrived. When class was over at 4:30, the protest was over. She is allegedly supposed to return tomorrow and next Monday and Tuesday.
This incident has also made the Huffington Post. Here's an interview with Mr. Montavalo: http://www.wrcbtv.com/story/24003478...out-arrest-utc If the moderators say it is ok, I can post the email from UTC's Chancellor Steve Angle sent out tonight to all students, staff, faculty members about these incidents. |
Con-artist. She's simply a con-artist.
Scroll down to the posting from "Erica Paris". Read the picture version of that theory posted tonight. With the recent lawsuits at UTK and Tennessee Tech, that's the game plan of these con-artists. https://twitter.com/UTCproblems |

In the emails from Chancellor Angle and the president of the SGA, they say just to ignore her and she might simply go away.
