Please Help Me!
I posted on here a few months ago that I was interested in running for rush chair. I'll try to make my long story short. Well come elections time I didn't get elected. Then out of the blue the girl that had been elected had to step down and I was appointed as our rush chair. We hold informal rush both during the fall and spring. Our rush for the spring starts January 30th. I am looking at using an Around the World theme where every night of rush we "explore" a different country. The events we hold include an Informational Meeting, Mingle Night, Dinner Date, and Bid Night. I would love to hear anyone and everyone's ideas. I have some ideas but I'm looking for cute games that we could play, cute skit ideas, ways to make the potential new members feel special, and ideas for a Bid Night event. This has all been very whirlwind for me so any help that y'all could give me as far as how to handle it all would be great!!!
Thanks in advance!!!! Allison |
I was never on a rush committee but I am hoping you have help- it is a big task for just one person. We always elected a rush chair, assistant rush chair- then they had a committee of about 10 girls.
Good luck with everything and keep us posted how it goes! Sue |
need more info...
What countries are you thinking about using for your theme? If you can tell me that, I may be able to come up with some things for you... Like, if you're thinking of Mexico, you could have a pinata game and have the pinata in the shape of your mascot. (For example, my sorority would have a turtle pinata.) :)

Right now I'm thinking of using at least Mexico and Italy. I figured I could have a cute Fiesta Party for Mingle Night (very informal--we just get together and get to know the girls) and doing an Italian Dinner for Dinner Date. I want to do a Progressive Dinner that night...where we have snacks at one house, the entree at another, and dessert at the last house. What I really need is a skit idea for the first night. That's what I'm most concerned about.

Something that is really cute that we did one semester was an around the world theme. We gave each of the women a little book, which looked like a passport, and each night they came, we gave them a little stamp to represent their visit (like a passport!). It was really cute, and the women loved them. It gave them something to remember recruitment by, and that was important to them.
Best of luck :) |
Hey there
What about an Olympic skit, say the American figure skater, the Romanian gymnast, Russian Hockey player, and make them really funny, and then the song we are the world? Just a thought, when I get more I will fill you in. We only do formal rush skits, for informal we don't. Have an around the world mixer too! And you could have an around the world night where sisters make different ethnic foods. |
Deltajas--I really like your idea. Very very cute. I also love the ideas of everyone else. Now my question is--does anyone know of a cute philanthropy we could do that would tie into the "All Around the World" theme?????
Keep the ideas coming!!! Allison |

Do you have a budge for your Phil. Nite? That makes a difference. Also, do you have a local/national Phil.? Let us know! |
Barbara, I thought of UNICEF too. There is also Feed the Children
I think. If it's open to your choice, have you considered a philanthropy that might get you some air time, something that doesn't have a ton of coverage but is very worthy? I bet a quick search on the net could bring up ideas few even imagine. |
For an "around the world" theme, China is also a good theme for a day. There are really bright, fun decorations like Chinese dragons, fans, and lanterns. Chopsticks, fortune cookies with a message inside about your chapter, and take-out containers are also really cute. Good luck!

TigerGirl52-How's it going? What did you decide to do? Or is it hush-hush?

Sounds like great ideas. I still have a couple of Rush items from decades ago, but I think these day's PNMs can't leave the room with anything..even tissues. Probably one way to prevent sororities with bigger budgets to spend more than financially-strapped chapters.
Good luck with Recruitment!! Looks like y'all have more time at parties to spend than the chapters I've worked with..plus party locations have a big influence on what can be done/not done. I think I missed something. Are you a local sorority? Most sororities try to think of activities related to their national phil. As part of the AGD Foundation, Alpha Gams raise funds and awareness about juvenile diabetes. |
Hi Allison,
I noted that you were from Baton Rouge. Are you at LSU? I am a National Area Director in my sorority, and am the former National Recruitment (new NPC term for 'rush') Director and I live in Baton Rouge. The chapters under my guidance today span from Louisiana to Germany ~ yes, we're the first NPC sorority to colonize in Alaska and Germany. I am very familiar with the LSU campus and ALL surrounding campuses, and employ many women who are Greeks. If you need more ideas and assistance, I may be able to help or be able to put you in contact with someone who can help you. Have you contacted your National Recruitment Coordiantor (or the term your sorority uses) for assistance? Glad to see you're excited, motivated, and ready to make a difference! That's the first step to success! Ever Forward in Sigma, |
Sorry I haven't posted anything in here lately. I just got back from a trip to California and then school started so I've been extremely busy. I want to thank everyone for their good luck wishes and advice. Y'all are definitely the best!!!! I've decided to go with An Around the World theme. All of my sisters I've told that to are super excited about it. Each night will be a different country. I think I'm going to start it off with an All-American Night followed by a Mexican Fiesta, Italian Night, and then who knows what for Bid Night. To answer your question AGDLynn...we aren't a local sorority. We are a professional and social sorority for women pursuing careers in agriculture. I've decided to do a philanthropy similar to our national philanthropy. Our national philanthropy is Ag in the Classroom. We are going to make displays and packets of Agriculture around the World and send them to area elementary schools. I just want to thank everyone else again. Y'all are so wonderful!!! I'm still open for cute ideas so keep them coming!!!!!
