Syracuse Triad
From the Alpha Gamma Delta FB page
Throwback Thursday: Alpha Gamma Delta, Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Phi were all founded on Syracuse's campus, but the connection between these three groups runs much deeper than just that. Read all about it in the latest issue of the Quarterly: http://issuu.com/alphagammadelta/docs/issuu/26 |
That's a neat story! I have to make a correction to the part about Gamma Phi Beta being founded as a "sorority," though...that word was coined when our Beta chapter was founded. Originally, we were a "society."

Did you know that Louise Viola Shepard, one of the founders of Alpha Phi, shared great grandparents with Estelle and Marguerite Shepard, two of the founders of Alpha Gamma Delta?
Deacon Gideon Shepard (1746-1790) fathered 3 daughters and 2 sons that lived to adulthood. His eldest son Winthrup (1772-1854) was grandfather to Louise, and his youngest son Gideon (1783-1852) was grandfather to Marguerite and Estelle. These two sororities both benefited from the assistance of Dr. Covington but 30+ years apart. It would be very interesting to know if he knew of the family connection. |
sorry, should be Dr. Coddington.
